چکیده

New memory technologies with radically different properties are appearing. A substantial hardware and architectural redesign is required if they are to be used energy and performance efficient in a high-performance data-intensive system. In this paper we explore different alternatives and claim that the changing memory hierarchy and the challange for their energy efficient usage at the software layer disruptively impact the architecture and algorithms in any data-intensive system; direct control of the raw storage media is required yielding different hardware interfaces and software layers; data placement and versioning are emerging as new research fields promising most efficient usage in terms of performance and energy consumption.

A Study on the Value Systems of the Fourth Region of the I.A.U

This paper aims to study and examine the value systems among the students region of Islamic Azad universities. The population includes all students in academic year 2008-9 among whom 400 ones were selected from 10 universities as a sample. The students' value hierarchies were examined using Alpourt 45- item questionnaire(A.V.L). Descriptive and t-inferential statistics and multivariate variance...

Practical Data Compression for Modern Memory Hierarchies

Although compression has been widely used for decades to reduce file sizes (thereby conserving storage capacity and network bandwidth when transferring files), there has been limited use of hardware-based compression within modern memory hierarchies of commodity systems. Why not? Especially as programs become increasingly data-intensive, the capacity and bandwidth within the memory hierarchy (i...

Techniques for Parallel Memory Hierarchies

Shared memory parallel machines are a popular choice for processing large data sets as they present a comparatively simple interface for programmers. Despite this, writing scalable parallel programs on them is very difficult because of the large disparity in the costs of accessing memory locations and limited interconnect bandwidth. For most data intensive applications, performance on these mac...

Cache Write Policy for Streaming Output Data

This paper presents the results of a cache memory hierarchy evaluation that demonstrates multimedia applications are significantly influenced by the cache write policy of the L1 data cache. As part of an initial investigation of the memory characteristics of multimedia applications, we have been exploring multi-level cache memory hierarchies to evaluate the memory bottlenecks in media processin...
