Effect of Thymectomy on Induction of Tumors and on the Transplantability of Polyoma-induced Tumors.

چکیده
reduced immunologic responses that are broadly classified as cellular histocompatibility reactions. Thus, after neo natal thymectomy, allogenic and even xenogenic skin grafts survived in mice over extended periods (15) ; rejec tion of allogenic skin grafts was delayed in hamsters and the second set reaction to skin homografts was abolished (22) ; the incidence of allergic encephalomyelitis was greatly reduced in rats (2, 7) ; lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus infection was not lethal for mice (23). Also, tumors were successfully grafted between unrelated strains of mice in thymectomized recipients (14). Antibody formation was greatly impaired after neonatal thymectomy, although variations have been observed among animals and with different antigens (20, 27). Recently, specific antigen(s) have been associated with either virus or chemical carcinogen-induced tumors (4, 10,

Transplantation of Polyoma Virus-induced Tumors in Mice*
Fifty-two polyoma-induced primary mouse tumors were tested for transplantability in isologous recipients. Thirty-five tumors grew progressively in the subcutaneous tissue, and several lines have been established in serial transplantation. The remaining tumors did not grow out at all upon transfer. Eleven among the transplantable tumors have been tested by inoculating known numbers of cells to t...

Neonatally thymectomized rats of two strains inoculated with SV40 developed more tumors after a shorter latent period than control rats. About 17% of CBA mice thymectomized at 3 weeks of age devek>i>edtumors after room infection with polyoma virus. No significant difference was found between the incidence of skin tumors of neonataliy thymectomized and control rats treated with 7,12-djmethylbcnz...
متن کاملEFFECT OF IRON OVERLOAD ON 7, 12-DIMETHYLBENZ (A) ANTHRACENE-INDUCED SKIN TUMORIGENESIS
Iron overload is known to occur in the West European and American population due to the consumption of iron-rich diets. On the other hand, genetic disorders leading to iron overload are also known. Iron overload leads to increased peroxidation and disruptive disintegration of lipid-rich membranes, and predisposes humans for an enhanced risk of cancer induction. In experimental animals iron ...

of polyoma virus. Age susceptibility to the oncogenic effects of virus was extended to the adult period. The usual stigmata associated with thymectomy at birth were not observed in the 3-day thymectomized mice. Nevertheless the methods used to restore immunologically deficient neonates were also effective in restoring the capacity to resist tumor induction by polyoma virus. Growth curves of pol...
