Silicon periodic nano-structures obtained by laser exposure of nano-wires
نویسندگان
چکیده
Silicon nano-wires were fabricated using thin Silicon on Insulator (SOI) wafers and a combination of anisotropic wet etching by TetraMethyl Ammonium Hydroxide (TMAH) and Local Oxidation of Silicon (LOCOS). These nano-wires were submitted to laser exposure using gas immersion laser doping (GILD). The result was the formation of either periodic nano-structures or silicon balls. Since the process uses very short laser pulses, it involves rapid melting and solidification of silicon. Hence, the observed periodicity is ascribed to Rayleigh instability, which involves surface tension effects in melted silicon. q 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Optimization, Yield Studies and Morphology of WO3Nano-Wires Synthesized by Laser Pyrolysis in C2H2and O2Ambients—Validation of a New Growth Mechanism
Laser pyrolysis has been used to synthesize WO3 nanostructures. Spherical nano-particles were obtained when acetylene was used to carry the precursor droplet, whereas thin films were obtained at high flow-rates of oxygen carrier gas. In both environments WO3 nanowires appear only after thermal annealing of the as-deposited powders and films. Samples produced under oxygen carrier gas in the lase...
متن کاملNano Wires by Self Assembly
We present a technique to fabricate nano wires on silicon substrates without any lithography. The wires are 50 nm or less in width, but their lengths can be 10s of micro meters. They can be formed by a single or multiple layers of metals. The wires can be designed to form a network which can be partially released from the substrate to form 3D structures. Such structures may serve as actuators o...
متن کاملFabrication of Copper and Iron Nano/Micro Structures on Semiconducting Substrate and Their Electrical Characterization
In this paper, we have studied the electrical properties of the randomly distributed metallic (Co and Fe) nano/ micro wires on Silicon substrate. Deposition was carried out potentiostatically into the pores of the track-etch polycarbonate membrane spin coated onto the Si substrate. Spin coated films were irradiated with 150MeV Ni (+11) ions at a fluence of 8E7 ions/cm2, followed by UV irradiati...
متن کاملGrowth of low temperature silicon nano-structures for electronic and electrical energy generation applications
This paper represents the lowest growth temperature for silicon nano-wires (SiNWs) via a vapour-liquid-solid method, which has ever been reported in the literature. The nano-wires were grown using plasma-enhanced chemical vapour deposition technique at temperatures as low as 150°C using gallium as the catalyst. This study investigates the structure and the size of the grown silicon nano-structu...
متن کاملA novel lithography technique for formation of large areas of uniform nanostructures
With nanotechnology becoming widely used, many applications such as plasmonics, sensors, storage devices, solar cells, nano-filtration and artificial kidneys require the structures with large areas of uniform periodic nanopatterns. Most of the current nano-manufacturing techniques, including photolithography, electron-beam lithography, and focal ion beam milling, are either slow or expensive to...
