چکیده

The present paper reports on the RXTE observations of the binary X-ray pulsar 4U 0115+63, covering an outburst in 1999 March-April with 44 pointings. The 3−30 keV PCA spectra and the 15−50 keV HEXTE spectra were analyzed jointly for the cyclotron resonance features. When the 3−50 keV luminosity at an assumed distance of 7 kpc was in the range (5−13)×10 erg s, harmonic double cyclotron features were observed in absorption at ∼11 and ∼22 keV, as was measured previously during typical outbursts. As the luminosity decreased below ∼5×10 erg s, the second resonance disappeared, and the fundamental resonance energy gradually increased, up to ∼16 keV at 0.16×10 erg s. These results reconfirm the report by Mihara et al. (2004) using Ginga, who observed a single absorption at ∼16 keV in a minor (∼ 10 erg s) outburst of this object. The luminosity-dependent cyclotron resonance energy may be understood as a result of a decrease in the accretion column height, in response to a decrease in the mass accretion rate. 0 Multiple Cyclotron Lines in the Spectrum of 4 U 0115 + 63

We report phase resolved spectroscopy of the transient accreting pulsar, 4U 0115+63. For the first time, more than two cylotron resonance scattering features are detected in the spectrum of an X–ray pulsar. The shape of the fundamental line appears to be complex, and this is in agreement with predictions of Monte-Carlo models. As in other pulsars, the line energies and optical depths are strong...

The Transient X–ray Pulsar 4u 0115+63 from Quiescence to Outburst through the Centrifugal Transition

We report on a BeppoSAX observation of the transient X–ray pulsar 4U 0115+63 close to periastron. This led to the discovery of a dramatic luminosity variation from ∼ 2×1034 erg s−1 to ∼ 5×1036 erg s−1 (factor > ∼ 250) in less than 15 hr. The variation was accompanied by only minor (if any) changes in the emitted spectrum and pulse fraction. On the contrary an observation near apastron detected ...

Magnetic Fields of Accreting X–Ray Pulsars with the Rossi X–Ray Timing Explorer

Using a consistent set of models, we parameterized the X-ray spectra of all accreting pulsars in the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer database which exhibit Cyclotron Resonance Scattering Features (CRSFs, or cyclotron lines). These sources in our sample are Her X-1, 4U 0115+63, Cen X-3, 4U 1626-67, XTE J1946-274, Vela X-1, 4U 1907+09, 4U 1538-52, GX 301-2, and 4U 0352+309 (X Per). We searched for co...

Discovery of Pulsations in the X-ray Transient 4u 1901+03

We describe observations of the 2003 outburst of the hard-spectrum X-ray transient 4U 1901+03 with the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer. The outburst was first detected in 2003 February by the AllSky Monitor, and reached a peak 2.5–25 keV flux of 8×10 ergs cm s (around 240 mCrab). The only other known outburst occurred 32.2 yr earlier, likely the longest presently known recurrence time for any X-ray...

A Clumpy Stellar Wind and Luminosity-dependent Cyclotron Line Revealed by the First Suzaku Observation of the High-mass X-ray Binary 4u 1538−522

We present results from the first Suzaku observation of the high-mass X-ray binary 4U 1538−522. The broad-band spectral coverage of Suzaku allows for a detailed spectral analysis, characterizing the cyclotron resonance scattering feature at 23.0± 0.4 keV and the iron Kα line at 6.426± 0.008 keV, as well as placing limits on the strengths of the iron Kβ line and the iron K edge. We track the evo...
