چکیده

An invertebrate ichnoassemblage from the Moenkopi Group (Spathian Ankareh Formation) at Diamond Creek in north-central Utah consists of Gordia marina Emmons, Helminthopsis hieroglyphica Wetzel and Bromley and irregular networks similar to Unisulcus. This is the first record of Gordia and Helminthopsis from the Moenkopi Group. This low diversity ichnoassemblage, consisting of simple grazing traces in association with tetrapod tracks, comes from supratidal, tidal flat deposits and represents the Scoyenia ichnofacies. A review of the Moenkopi invertebrate trace-fossil record reveals a handful of reports of dwelling burrows such as Palaeophycus, grazing traces such as Helminthoidichnites and locomotion traces such as Diplichnites and Kouphichnium. Previous identification of the Glossifungites ichnofacies in the Moenkopi Group is not supported.

First Report on Reptile Tracks from the Moenkopi Formation (lower-?middle Triassic) in Dinosaur National Monument, Utah

The Lower-Middle Triassic Moenkopi and Red Peak formations, which crop out throughout western North America, contain ubiquitous occurrences of tetrapod tracks attributed to reptiles (Peabody, 1948; Klein and Lucas, 2010; Lovelace and Lovelace, 2012). Although reptile skeletal remains from these formations are rare to non-existent, and largely restricted to the Holbrook Member in Arizona (e.g., ...

Second Day: Early and Middle Triassic Stratigraphy, Paleontology and Correlation in Northeastern Arizona

Today’s trip traverses a nearly east-west swath of the southern Colorado Plateau in northeatern Arizona (Fig. 2.1), where the low and barren topography is developed in Permian and Triassic sedimentary rocks. Here, our focus is on the Lower-Middle Triassic Moenkopi Formation. In northern Arizona, east of Flagstaff, the Moenkopi section (Fig. 2.2) is a relatively thin (< 150 m thick) and almost e...

Arizonasaurus and its implications for archosaur divergence.

The Moenkopi Formation has yielded partial and isolated remains of important archosaurs including rauisuchian skull fragments and isolated poposaur centra and pelvic girdle elements. A recently discovered skeleton referable to Arizonasaurus babbitti shows that most of these archosaurian remains belong to one taxon. Characteristics of the skeleton of Arizonasaurus show that it belongs to a poorl...

An archosauromorph dominated ichnoassemblage in fluvial settings from the late Early Triassic of the Catalan Pyrenees (NE Iberian Peninsula)

The vertebrate recovery after the end-Permian mass extinction can be approached through the ichnological record, which is much more abundant than body fossils. The late Olenekian (Early Triassic) tetrapod ichnoassemblage of the Catalan Pyrenean Basin is the most complete and diverse of this age from Western Tethys. This extensional basin, composed of several depocenters, was formed in the lates...

Triassic Stratigraphy in the Zuni Mountains, West-central New Mexico

—The Triassic System in the Zuni Mountains consists of one Middle Triassic unit, the Moenkopi Formation, the Upper Triassic Chinle Group, and the Upper Triassic-Lower Jurassic(?) Wingate Sandstone. The Chinle Group in the Zuni Mountains consists of six formations, in ascending order: Zuni Mountains (named here; = “mottled strata” of previous workers), Shinarump, Bluewater Creek, Petrified Fores...
