However, when the interface forms a singularity or changes its topology, the tracking methods are difficult to continue beyond the singularity time. Local surgery for the moving grid points is required. This complicates the

Numerical investigation of free surface flood wave and solitary wave using incompressible SPH method

Simulation of free surface flow and sudden wave profile are recognized as the most challenging problem in computational hydraulics. Several Eulerian/Lagrangian approaches and models can be implemented for simulating such phenomena in which the smoothed particle hydrodynamics method (SPH) is categorized as a proper candidate. The incompressible SPH (ISPH) method hires a precise incompressible hy...

A Fast Immersed Boundary Fourier Pseudo-spectral Method for Simulation of the Incompressible Flows

Abstract   The present paper is devoted to implementation of the immersed boundary technique into the Fourier pseudo-spectral solution of the vorticity-velocity formulation of the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The immersed boundary conditions are implemented via direct modification of the convection and diffusion terms, and therefore, in contrast to some other similar ...

Eulerian Techniques for Fluid-Structure Interactions: Part I - Modeling and Simulation

This contribution is the first part of two papers on the Fully Eulerian formulation for fluid-structure interactions. We derive a monolithic variational formulation for the coupled problem in Eulerian coordinates. Further, we present the Initial Point Set method for capturing the moving interface. For the discretization of this interface problem, we introduce a modified finite element scheme th...

On the Numerical Simulation of Free Surface Flow: Modeling Water and Ice PREPRINT

The modeling of various types of free surface flow is presented, ranging from incompressible Newtonian flows, to non-Newtonian viscous ice flows. A numerical method for the simulation of such flows that relies on an Eulerian approach based on the volume-of-fluid formulation is advocated. A

Parallel Eulerian Methods for Flows with Elastic Membranes∗

We propose and study parallel numerical algorithms for simulation of flows with elastic membranes, such as red blood cells. The challenges of modeling such flows include accurately resolving the interface motion and enforcing the appropriate interface mechanics. We propose a phase field Eulerian method for implicitly capturing the location of the dynamic interface between two fluids. In additio...
