چکیده

In this paper we combine oligopoly theory and fishery dynamics to study the effects of imperfect competition and cooperation among the players on the long run evolution of a living resource. A fish population has the capacity for reproduction and growth over time. It might be diminished, however, by the harvesting activities of a sole owner or several individuals. Hence, answers to questions like, how do (optimal) harvesting paths look like, under which conditions is it more likely to observe conservation or extinction of the resource, and what is the influence of the market structure, are of high practical importance (see Conrad, 1995 and Clarke, 1990 for an overview). In this work we study a commercial fishing model where it is assumed that a renewable resource is subject to harvest by n players and that the harvested quantities are offered onm distinct markets with downward sloping demand1. Our model is based on the framework introduced by Okuguchi (1998) which has been extensively used before. In Szidarovszky and Okuguchi (1998) the n-player noncooperative game in contiuous-time is studied and existence and stability results of the equilibria are given. In a recent paper, Szidarovszky and Okuguchi (2000) investigate the other extreme case, namely that the players form a coalition and behave like a sole owner so that their total profit is maximized. Again, results for the existence and stability of equilibria in this case are provided. Results on the effect of delayed information

Oligopoly with Capacity Constraints and Thresholds

Abstract   Extended Oligopoly models will be introduced and examined in which the firms might face capacity limits, thresholds for minimal and maximal moves, and antitrust thresholds in the case of partial cooperation. Similar situation occurs when there is an additional cost of output adjustment, which is discontinuous at zero due to set-up costs. In these cases the payoff functions of the...

Using Genetic Algorithms to Simulate the Evolution of an Oligopoly Game

This paper extends the N-person IPD game into a more interesting game in economics, namely, the oligopoly game. Due to its market share dynamics, the oligopoly game is more complicated and is in general not an exact N-person IPD game. Using genetic algroithms, we simulated the oligopoly games under various settings. It is found that, even in the case of a three-oligopolist (three-player) game, ...

APPLICATIONS OF PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS IN STABILITY INDEX AND CRITICAL LENGTH IN AVALANCHE DYNAMICS

In this study, Stability analysis of snow slab which is under detonation has developed in the present model. The model has been studied by using the basic concepts of non-detonation model and concepts of underwater explosions with appropriate modifications to the present studies. The studies have also been extended to account the effect of critical length variations at the time of detonation an...

Total and Partial efficiency indexes in data envelopment analysis

Introduction: Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a data-oriented method for measuring and benchmarking the relative efficiency of peer decision making units (DMUs) with multiple inputs and multiple outputs. DEA was initiated in 1978 when Charnes, Cooper and Rhodes (CCR) demonstrated how to change a fractional linear measure of efficiency into a linear programming format. This non-parametric app...

Uncertainty , Spillovers , and Cooperative R & D

This paper extends the line of research on cooperation in R&D in an oligopoly with spillovers. Departing from the existing literature, we adopt an infinite-horizon dynamic framework, incorporate uncertainty, and define technology spillover as diffusion of a new technology from an innovator to non-innovators. We consider two cooperative regimes: the R&D cartel in which firms coordinates R&D effo...
