Toward a Propensity-Oriented Player Typology in Educational Mobile Games

Thepivotalroleofidentifyingtypesofplayersisinevitableinthegamecontexts,andeducational gamesarenotanexception.Thisarticleaimstopresentamodelofplayer-gameinteractioninthe mobile game-based learning setting regarding the behavioral propensity.Thismodel comprises fivedifferentfeaturesinheritedfromtheplayertypologyliteratureincludingprecision,perfection, punctuality, presence, and pace.To this end,we analyzed the activities of players in amobile educationalgameandthentriedtoclassifyplayersbasedontheirpreferencesinhowtodealwith thegame.Furthermore,asasteptowarddeterminingtheassociationoffeatureswitheachother, multiplelinearregressionanalysiswasconducted.Theoutcomeoftheinvestigationsresultedina modelrepresentingplayerinteractionwiththegameinawaythatitcouldbeusedtoclassifydifferent typesofplayersineducationalmobilegames.
