The Posterior Muscles of the Auricle: Anatomy and Surgical Applications

چکیده
Objective: Prominent ears are generally considered as primary cartilage deformities, but some authors consider that posterior auricular muscles malposition could play a role in the genesis of this malformation. Study design: Auricle dissections of 30 cadavers and histologic sections of 2 fetuses’ ears. Methods: Posterior area of the auricle has been dissected in 24 cadavers preserved with zinc chlorure and 6 fresh cadavers in order to describe the posterior muscles and fascias of the auricle. Posterior auricle muscles from 5 fresh adult cadavers have been performed and two fetal auricles (12 and 22 weeks of amenorhea) have been semi-serially sectioned in horizontal plans. Five μm-thick sections were processed for routine histology (H&E) or for immuno histochemistry using antibodies specific for the slow-twitch and fast-twich myosin heavy chains in order to determine which was the nature of these muscles. Results: The posterior auricular and the transversus auriculae muscles looked in most cases like skeletal muscles and they were made of 75% of slow muscular fibres. The histologic sections of the auricle in the fetus suggest that the transversus auriculae plays a role in the constitution of the antihelical fold. The obliquus auriculae muscle was rather a fascia than a muscle in adult dissections and in fetuses auricle sections. Conclusion: Some cases of prominent ears are related to anomalies of the posterior muscles of the auricle.

Nodular Fasciitis of the Auricle: A Case Report
Introduction: Nodular fasciitis is described as a benign reactive proliferation of myofibroblasts. Due to its rapid-growing nature, a precise clinical diagnosis is difficult and the condition is frequently misdiagnosed as malignant lesions. Case Report: In this study, we present the case of a young woman with an auricular nodular fasciitis as an example of one of the rarest sites of this tumo...

Since "variation" is one of anatomy topics which helps other medical sciences, specially surgery, and gives assures surgeons of surgical operations. Thus, investigation of variations in cadavers is very important and essential.A cadaver about 50-year-old and white race was prepared and dissected at Anatomy Department of Fasa Medical School. After dissecting the left arm, it was revealed that in ...
متن کاملRehabilitation of an Auricular Defect Using Surgical Stent
Reconstruction of a facial defect is a complex modality either surgically or prosthetically, depending on the site, size, etiology, severity, age, and the patient’s expectation. Loss of an auricle, in the presence of an auditory canal, affects hearing, because the auricle gathers sound and directs it into the canal. The auricle acts as a resonator to slightly amplify lower frequency sound...
متن کاملPosterior Cruciate Ligament: Current Concepts Review
The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is the largest and strongest ligament in the human knee, and the primary posteriorstabilizer. Recent anatomy and biomechanical studies have provided an improved understanding of PCL function. PCLinjuries are typically combined with other ligamentous, meniscal and chondral injuries. Stress radiography has becomean important and validated objective measure in...
