Optimization of Precast Prestressed Concrete Bridge Girder Systems

چکیده
60 A practical approach to the optimal design of precast, prestressed concrete highway bridge girder systems is presented. The approach aims at standardizing the optimal design of bridge systems, as opposed to standardizing girder sections. Structural system optimization is shown to be more relevant than conventional girder optimization for an arbitrarily chosen structural system. Bridge system optimization is defined as the optimization of both longitudinal and transverse bridge configurations (number of spans, number of girders, girder type, reinforcements and tendon layout). As a result, the preliminary design process is much simplified by using some developed design charts from which selection of the optimum bridge system, number and type of girders, and amounts of prestressed and non-prestressed reinforcements are easily obtained for a given bridge length, width and loading type.

Effects of Temperature Variations on Precast, Prestressed Concrete Bridge Girders
The monitoring of a precast, prestressed girder bridge during fabrication and service provided the opportunity to observe temperature variations and to evaluate the accuracy of calculated strains and cambers. The use of high curing temperatures during fabrication affects the level of prestress because the strand length is fixed during the heating, the coefficients of thermal expansion of steel ...

This presentation describes the concepts involved in design and construction of a reinforcement-free bridge deck intended to provide cost effective, durable and more rapid construction for highway bridges. The new wide flanged or bulb tee precast prestressed concrete girder sections currently used in bridges allow for a shorter effective span for the bridge deck because of the wide girder flang...
متن کاملShear Strengthening Using Cfrp Sheets for a Prestressed Concrete Highway Bridge in Manitoba, Canada
The use of heavier trucks demanded upgrading of a twenty-seven year old bridge in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Analysis of the precast prestressed concrete girders using the current AASHTO Code indicates a deficiency in the shear capacity. Shear strengthening using Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) sheets provides a low-cost solution by increasing the speed of construction and reducing traf...
متن کاملAdvantages of Large Strands in Precast/Prestressed Concrete Highway Application
The objective of this research is to investigate the advantages of using large-diameter 0.7 inch prestressing strands in pretention applications. The advantages of large-diameter strands are mainly beneficial in the heavy construction applications. Bridges and tunnels are subjected to a higher daily traffic with an exponential increase in trucks ultimate weight, which raise the demand for highe...

The problem of concrete bridge deck deterioration on many of our newer as well as older bridges is severe, somewhat perplexing as to cause, and difficult to solve. Furthermore, the cost to highway agencies for their repair, and the cost of delay to the highway user, can be extremely large. The use of precast, prestressed concrete for bridge decks is a con cept of construction or reconstruction...
