Describing Structure and Semantics of Graphs Using an RDF Vocabulary

Mukkai Krishnamoorthy Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Department of Computer Science email [email protected] ABSTRACT The RDF Graph Modeling Language (RGML) is a W3C RDF vocabulary to describe graph structures, including semantic information associated with a graph. Viewing general graphs as Web resources, RGML defines graph, node, and edge as RDF classes and attributes of graphs (such as label and weight) as RDF properties. Some of these RDF properties establish relationships between graph, node, and edge instances. RDF Statements about graph elements involve subjects, predicates and objects. Subjects and predicates are RDF Resources, while objects are either RDF Resources or RDF Literals. RGML uses the XML Schema datatypes for RDF Literals. RGML can be easily combined with other RDF vocabularies, for example, to add Dublin Core properties. RGML is very useful for describing webgraphs (the structure of a web site), web collections, and sitemaps.

Adding formal semantics to the Web building on top of RDF Schema
RDF Schema provides means to define vocabulary, structure and constraints for expressing metadata about Web resources. However, formal semantics for the primitives defined in RDF Schema are not provided, and the expressivity of these primitives is not enough for full-fledged ontological modeling and reasoning. To perform these tasks, an additional layer on top of RDF Schema is needed. In this p...
متن کاملGenerating examples of paths summarizing RDF datasets
As datasets become too large to be comprehended directly, a need for data summarization arises. A data summary can present typical patterns commonly found in a dataset, from which high-level understanding of the data can be obtained. Nonetheless, such abstract understanding can be improved by providing concrete examples of the summary patterns. If possible, the chosen examples should be diverse...
متن کاملApplication of Frame Semantics to Teaching Seeing and Hearing Vocabulary to Iranian EFL Learners
A term in one language rarely has an absolute synonymous meaning in the same language; besides, it rarely has an equivalent meaning in an L2. English synonyms of seeing and hearing are particularly grammatically and semantically different. Frame semantics is a good tool for discovering differences between synonymous words in L2 and differences between supposed L1 and L2 equivalents. Vocabulary ...
متن کاملRevisiting Blank Nodes in RDF to Avoid the Semantic Mismatch with SPARQL
Jointly with the release of RDF in 1999 as recommendation of the W3C, the natural problem of querying RDF data was raised. Since then, several designs and implementations of RDF query languages have been proposed (see [9] and [7] for detailed comparisons of RDF query languages). In 2004, the RDF Data Access Working Group released a first public working draft of a query language for RDF, called ...
متن کاملProvenance Context Entity (PaCE): Scalable Provenance Tracking for Scientific RDF Data
The Resource Description Framework (RDF) format is being used by a large number of scientific applications to store and disseminate their datasets. The provenance information, describing the source or lineage of the datasets, is playing an increasingly significant role in ensuring data quality, computing trust value of the datasets, and ranking query results. Current provenance tracking approac...
