چکیده

We present a thorough photometric and geometric study of the multimedia devices composed of both a matte screen and an attached camera, where it is shown that the light emitted by an image displayed on the monitor can be expressed in closed-form at any point facing the screen, and that the geometric calibration of the camera attached to the screen can be simplified by introducing simple geometric constraints. These theoretical contributions are experimentally validated in a photometric stereo application with extended sources, where a colored scene is reconstructed while watching a collection of graylevel images displayed on the screen, providing a cheap and entertaining way to acquire realistic 3D-representations for, e.g., augmented reality. & 2015 Elsevier B.V. Geometric and Photometric Constraints for Surface Recovery

In this paper we present a novel approach to surface recovery from an image sequence of a rotating object. In this approach, the object is illuminated under a collinear light source (where the light source lies on or near the optical axis) and rotated on a controlled turntable. A wire-frame of 3D curves on the object surface is extracted by using shading and occluding contours in the image sequ...

Photometric Stereo via Computer Screen Lighting for Real-time Surface Reconstruction

We introduce a method which uses the light emitted by a computer screen to illuminate an object such as a human face from multiple directions, simultaneously capturing images with a webcam in order to perform photometric stereo. Dominant eigenvectors of the captured images provide surface normals, which are integrated into a 3D surface using Gauss-Seidel relaxation. The system runs at 10 frames...

Geometry and Photometry in 3D Visual Recognition

This thesis addresses the problem of visual recognition under two sources of variability: geometric and photometric. The geometric deals with the relation between 3D objects and their views under parallel, perspective, and central projection. The photometric deals with the relation between 3D matte objects and their images under changing illumination conditions. Taken together, an alignment-bas...

Pyramidal Normal Map Integration for Real-time Photometric Stereo

This paper presents a real-time photometric stereo method designed for online 3D telecommunications. This method requires only consumer grade hardware such as a webcam and a GPU. The lighting conditions are controlled from the computer screen and the photometric reconstruction is performed on the GPU. Our method reaches real-time rendering thanks to a pyramidal integration of the normal maps ba...
