چکیده

Self-checking circuits can detect the presence of both transient and permanent faults. A self-checking circuit consists of a functional circuit, which produces encoded output vectors, and a checker, which checks the output vectors. The checker has the ability to expose its own faults as well. The functional circuit can be either combinational or sequential. A self-checking system consists of an interconnection of selfchecking circuits. The advantage of such a system is that errors can be caught as soon as they occur; thus, data contamination is prevented. Although much effort has been concentrated on the design of self-checking checkers by previous researchers, very few results have been presented for the design of self-checking functional circuits. In this paper, we explore methods for the costeffective design of combinational and sequential self-checking functional circuits and checkers. The area overhead for all proposed design alternatives is studied in detail.

An efficient CAD tool for High-Level Synthesis of VLSI digital transformers

Digital transformers are considered as one of the digital circuits being widely used in signal and data processing systems, audio and video processing, medical signal processing as well as telecommunication systems. Transforms such as Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) are among the ones being commonly used in this area. As an illu...

Design of VHDL-based totally self-checking finite-state machine and data-path descriptions

This paper presents a complete methodology to design a Totally Self-Checking sequential architecture based on the generic architecture of FSMD (finite state machine and data path), such as the one deriving from VHDL specifications. The control part of the system is designed to be Self-Checking by adopting a state assignment providing a constant Hamming distance between each 〈present state, next...

Implementation and Delay Estimation of Concurrent Error Detection Arithmetic Adders Using Hardware Redundancy Based on Dual Rail Encoding

Arithmetic functions are the most used operations in VLSI circuits. So the design of adders with high reliability and speed operation are of major concern in such circuits. This paper presents a methodology for designing totally self-checking Arithmetic adders for VLSI circuits and FPGA implementation using Verilog HDL. It detects the presence of all single stuck-at faults on-line that may occu...

Self-Checking Design in Eastern Europe

LEADING VLSl CHIP and digital system manufacturers report an increasing number of undetected temporary faults that cause permanent damage in general-purpose microprocessor-based systems.’ Clearly, modern VLSI circuits require higher reliability as traditional means of protection against temporaiy faults become insufficient. This need renewed interest in self-checking circuits for on-line error ...

Spice Compatible Model for Multiple Coupled Nonuniform Transmission Lines Application in Transient Analysis of VLSI Circuits

An SPICE compatible model for multiple coupled nonuniform lossless transmission lines (TL's) is presented. The method of the modeling is based on the steplines approximation of the nonuniform TLs and quasi-TEM assumptions. Using steplines approximation the system of coupled nonuniform TLs is subdivided into arbitrary large number of coupled uniform lines (steplines) with different characteristi...
