Modeling Architectural Patterns' Behavior Using Architectural Primitives

چکیده

Architectural patterns have an impact on both the structure and the behavior of a system at the architecture design level. However, it is challenging to model patterns’ behavior in a systematic way because modeling languages do not provide the appropriate abstractions and because each pattern addresses a whole solution space comprised of potentially infinite solution variants. In this paper, we advocate the use of architectural primitives for systematically modeling architectural patterns in the behavioral view. These architectural primitives are found among a number of architectural patterns and serve as the basic building blocks for modeling patterns’ behavior. The main contribution of this work lies in the discovery of architectural primitives, defining architectural primitives using UML, and capturing the missing pattern semantics by using UML’s stereotypes.

A catalog of architectural primitives for modeling architectural patterns

Architectural patterns are a fundamental aspect of the architecting process and subsequently the architectural documentation. Unfortunately, there is only poor support for modeling architectural patterns for two reasons. First, patterns describe recurring design solutions and hence do not directly match the elements in modeling languages. Second, they support an inherent variability in the solu...

Concise Composit ion of Architectural Styles From Architectural Primit ives

Architectural styles represent composition patterns and constraints at the software architectural level and are targeted at families of systems with shared characteristics. They enable architectural reuse and hence can bring economy to the design of software architecture. Existing approaches support systematic description of style-based software architectures. Our approach, Alfa, focuses on the...

Effective Modeling of Software Architectural Assemblies Using Constraint Automata

Alfa is a framework for the construction of software architectures and their elements from architectural primitives. In any system involving events from multiple sources, synchrony and asynchrony between events arise naturally. Support for simultaneous synchrony and asynchrony, and scalability to assemblies of large numbers of architectural primitives are central concerns for effectively modeli...

Detailed Primitive-based 3d Modeling of Architectural Elements

The article describes a pipeline, based on image-data, for the 3D reconstruction of building façades or architectural elements and the successive modeling using geometric primitives. The approach overcome some existing problems in modeling architectural elements and deliver efficient-in-size reality-based textured 3D models useful for metric applications. For the 3D reconstruction, an opensourc...

Distilling Software Architectural Primitives from Architectural Styles

Architectural styles codify commonly used idioms in system structures, organizations, and interactions. Existing classifications of architectural styles provide empirical guidelines for style selection, but fail to systematically characterize styles or reveal their foundations. Moreover, the mapping between architectural styles and their implementations is generally poorly understood. This pape...
