Comparing LIDAR and IFSAR: What can you expect?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Three-dimensional mapping products in the form of DEMs (Digital Elevation Models) have become much more accessible in recent years, in part due to the implementation of LIDAR and IFSAR technologies. While there is considerable familiarity with one technology or the other, they are not often examined in terms of their mutually similar characteristics or equally those that are dissimilar. The purpose of this paper is to summarize those factors which will ultimately help to determine whether one technology or the other is appropriate for a particular application. We present two examples to illustrate and suggest that in many ways they can be viewed as complimentary rather than competitive technologies.

متن کاملIntegration of Lidar and Ifsar for Mapping
LiDAR and IfSAR data is now widely used for a number of applications, particularly those needing a digital elevation model. The data is often complementary to other data such as aerial imagery and high resolution satellite data. This paper will review the current data sources and the products and then look at the ways in which the data can be integrated for particular applications. The main pla...
متن کاملDEMs Created from Airborne IFSAR – An Update
The factors affecting the wide-scale use of DEMs (Digital Elevation Models) and their associated ORRIs (Ortho-Rectified Radar Images) created from airborne IFSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) have been evolving rapidly over the past few years. These factors include both technical and non-technical characteristics. In this paper we review several of these characteristics including v...
متن کاملProduction System for Autonomous 3-dimensional Modeling with Lidar, Ifsar, and Photogrammetric Dsm Data
We describe an autonomous production system that utilizes Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques and Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) to create accurate textured 3D site models with LiDAR, IFSAR, and stereo imagery. LiDAR is the data set of choice for specific urban scenes. IFSAR or stereo imagery is used for broad areas to mitigate cost. A high resolution Digital Surface Model (DSM...
متن کاملDigital surface models and building extraction: a comparison of IFSAR and LIDAR data
2 In this paper the task to extract significant built structure in Digital Surface Models is analyzed. The original data are obtained by means of Interferometric SAR or LIDAR techniques, and have different resolution and noise characteristics. This work aims to make a comparison of what (and how precisely) it is possible to detect and extract starting from these models, taking into account thei...
