Convexity En Plaque Meningioma Manifesting as Subcutaneous Mass: Case Report

چکیده
A 67-year-old woman sensed a slowly growing, painless hard mass in the left parietal region. Cranial computed tomography showed focal bony erosion and homogeneous sclerotic change at the affected site. Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging revealed an enhanced subcutaneous mass and irregularly thickened dura mater. Intraoperatively, the subcutaneous tumor was found to be strongly adhered to the temporalis muscle. The outer table was eroded adjacent to the subcutaneous tumor, whereas the bony structures of the inner table were intact. The dura mater underneath had irregular-shaped, yellowish convolutions both on the outer and inner surfaces. The patient underwent total tumor resection with sufficient normal margins. The histological diagnosis was World Health Organization (WHO) grade I meningioma, with finger-like outward extensions through the dura mater and overlying skull, and infiltration among into the temporalis muscle fibers. Meningiomas may form a subcutaneous mass without intracranial growth.

En plaque meningioma of the basilar meninges and Meckel's cave: MR appearance.
The magnetic resonance (MR) appearance of intracranial meningioma typically is of an extraaxial mass that enhances intensely after contrast injection (1–3). However, difficulty in differentiating a meningioma from other processes can occur because of the tumor’s location or other features (1–5). En plaque meningioma can be difficult to image and can simulate other lesions, especially when near ...
متن کاملIntracranial en-plaque tuberculoma impersonating en-plaque meningioma: Case report and brief review of literature
BACKGROUND Tuberculosis of the central nervous system continues to be a major health hazard in developing countries like India. There are various manifestations of central nervous system tuberculosis including meningitis and space occupying lesions. We present a case of tuberculoma en-plaque which is often initially confused with a meningioma on presentation. We also review the literature relev...
متن کاملCT Features of Hyperostosing Meningioma En Plaque 853
Hyperostosis of the sphenoid ridge or convexity of the skull associated with meningioma en plaque (MEP) is often confused with other hyperostosing conditions, such as fibrous dysplasia or osteoma. The authors present nine cases, six of them proven, of hyperostosing MEP with specific attention to the CT features. All nine cases had one or more CT features that were characteristic or suggestive o...

We report a patient with an uncommon presentation in the form of massive bilateral calvarial hyperostosis with bi-parasagittal en plaque meningioma. The tumour was removed by bilateral fronto-parieto-occipital craniotomies. The patient was subjected to post operative radiotherapy to reduce the chances of recurrance. The management of such a case is a surgical challenge.
متن کاملDorsal extradural meningioma: Case report and literature review
BACKGROUND Extradural spinal mass lesions are most commonly metastatic tumors. Extradural meningiomas are rare, accounting for approximately 2.5-3.5% of spinal meningiomas; intraoperatively, they are easily mistaken for malignant tumors, especially in the en plaque variety, resulting in inadequate surgical treatment. CASE DESCRIPTION Our case is one of the first to describe a patient with two...
