چکیده

The toxicity of 7 herbicides to the three cyanobacteria was tested in this work. The results indicated that: (1) There was a highly significant relationship between dried weight or chlorophyll-a and OD680nm for tested cyanobacteria; (2) the toxicity of the tested herbicides with the order from high to low was: photosynthesis-inhibiting > ACCase inhibitor > protox inhibiting herbicides; (3) the sensitivity of various species exposed to cyanazine, diclofop, prometryn, simazine and simetryn varied by over one order of magnitude. The decreasing order of sensitivity of cyanobacteria to the selected herbicides was: M. Flosaquae > M. Aeruginosa > A. flos-aquae. Cyanobacteria can produce toxins including hepatotoxins e.g. microcystins and endotoxins e.g. lipopolysaccharides. Therefore, the research on comparing the differential sensitivity of cyanobacteria and green algae is of important scientific significance and realistic value

Interspecific competition between Microcystis aeruginosa and Anabaena flos-aquae from Taihu Lake, China.

Microcystis and Anabaena are the main cyanobacteria that cause cyanobacterial blooms in Taihu Lake, China. The mechanism of population competition between M. aeruginosa and A. flos-aquae was studied by co-cultivation in the laboratory. The growth of M. aeruginosa was inhibited, while the growth of A. flos-aquae was promoted. The degree of inhibition or promotion was related to the ratio of the ...

Herbicides and insecticides effects on green algae and cyanobacteria strain

The toxic effects of herbicides (Machete, Saturn) and pesticides (Diazinon and Malathion) on green algae, Scenedesmus obtusiusculus, and cyanobacteria, Anabaena flos aquae, were studied. The results indicated that Machete and Saturn, in comparison to Diazinon and Malathion, were more toxic. On the other hand it was revealed that green algae was more sensitive to the pesticides than the cyanobac...

Effects of monosulfuron-ester on metabolic processes of nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria Anabaena flos-aquae and Anabaena azotica

Presence of the relatively new sulfonylurea herbicide monosulfuron-ester at 0.03-300nmol/L affected the growth of two non-target nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria (Anabaena flos-aquae and Anabaena azotica) and substantially inhibited in vitro Acetolactate synthase activity, with IC50 of 3.3 and 101.3nmol/L for A. flos-aquae and A. azotica, respectively. Presenting in 30-300nmol/L, it inhibited prot...

Comparative Sensitivity of Eight Freshwater Phytoplankton Species to Isoprocarb, Propargite, Flumetralin and Propiconazol

This work compared the sensitivity of three cyanobacteria (Anabaena flos-aquae, Microcystis flosaquae and Mirocystis aeruginosa) as well as five green algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, Scenedesmus quadricauda, Scenedesmus obliquus, Chlorella vulgaris and Chlorella pyrenoidosa) to four pesticides through 96h short-term chronic tests. The results showed that the toxicity of the pesticides t...

Alternative blooming of Aphanizomenon flos-aquae or Planktothrix agardhii induced by the timing of the critical nitrogen:phosphorus ratio in hypertrophic riverine lakes

Großer Müggelsee and Langer See are limnologically similar but during an investigation from 1990 until 1993 marked differences were observed in the species that dominated during the summer blooms. Two distinct planktonic communities could be recognised, one dominated by ”Planktothrix agardhii” and the other by ”Aphanizomenon flos-aquae/Microcystis spp.”. A sensitive moment for the differentiati...
