چکیده

In order to investigate the photosynthetic activity of tobacco plants with special reference to the relationship between this activity and the content of cytochrome f, the method of extraction and some properties of this compound was studied. Cytochrome f was extracted from tobacco chloroplasts, using ammoniac ethanol solution containing Triton X-100. Tobacco cytochrome f had properties similar to those of parsley cytochrome f. The concentration of cytochrome f in the extract was 0.18 to 0. 2 moles and not affected by the variety of tobacco plants. As the concentration of chlorophyll of tobacco plants varied remarkably among the varieties, the ratio of chlorophyll/ cytochrome f differed due to the difference of the starting materials.

The role of plastocyanin in the adjustment of the photosynthetic electron transport to the carbon metabolism in tobacco.

We investigated adaptive responses of the photosynthetic electron transport to a decline in the carbon assimilation capacity. Leaves of different ages from wild-type tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) L. var Samsun NN and young mature leaves of tobacco transformants with impaired photoassimilate export were used. The assimilation rate decreased from 280 in young mature wild-type leaves to below 50 mmo...

Inducible Repression of Nuclear-Encoded Subunits of the Cytochrome b6f Complex in Tobacco Reveals an Extraordinarily Long Lifetime of the Complex.

The biogenesis of the cytochrome b6f complex in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) seems to be restricted to young leaves, suggesting a high lifetime of the complex. To directly determine its lifetime, we employed an ethanol-inducible RNA interference (RNAi) approach targeted against the essential nuclear-encoded Rieske protein (PetC) and the small M subunit (PetM), whose function in higher plants is ...

Sun leaves up-regulate the photorespiratory pathway to maintain a high rate of CO2 assimilation in tobacco

The greater rate of CO2 assimilation (A n) in sun-grown tobacco leaves leads to lower intercellular and chloroplast CO2 concentrations and, thus, a higher rate of oxygenation of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate (RuBP) than in shade-grown leaves. Impairment of the photorespiratory pathway suppresses photosynthetic CO2 assimilation. Here, we hypothesized that sun leaves can up-regulate photorespiratory ...

Tobacco responds to salt stress by increased activity of antioxidant enzymes . Ali Asghar Hatamnia1,*, Nasser Abbaspour1, Reza Darvishzadeh2, Fatemeh Rahmani1, Reza Heidari 1 1

In order to understand the response of tobacco to salt stress, antioxidant enzyme activities, plant biomass and ion content were analyzed in two oriental tobacco genotypes (Basma 31 and SPT 406). Tobacco plants were exposed to 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mM NaCl for 12 days. The fresh and dry weight as well as shoot and root length of Basma 31 were greater than those of SPT 406 under increasing sal...

Extraction of Flavonoids and Quantification of Rutin from waste Tobacco Leaves

The potential of tobacco waste as a viable source of medicinally important flavonoids like rutin has been investigated. Three flavonoids, apigenin, quercetin and rutin, have been isolated from waste tobacco leaves, and their identities have been confirmed by UV-visible, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. By using analytical HPLC, the amount of rutin present in the tobacco leaves, before and after...
