چکیده

A low-noise and compact SQUID-NDE system cooled by a cryocooler has been developed for practical NDE of carbon-fiber composites. In order to suppress the magnetic noise due to a cryocooler, a planar high-Tc SQUID gradiometer, coaxial pulse tube cryocooler, and SQUID stage separated from the cold head of the cryocooler were introduced. There was no increase of magnetic flux noise due to the cryocooler compared to noise by liquid-nitrogen cooling with the same SQUID. The temperature at the SQUID stage was controlled at 75K±0.05K for several hours by heaters. The field generator with ferrite cores was employed for relatively lower electric conductive composites. Detections of deep-lying hidden slots in stacked carbon-fiber composite specimens were demonstrated to show the effectiveness of the system.

Developing Raman Spectroscopy for the Nondestructive Testing of Composite Materials

The goal of this research is to examine the potential of Raman spectroscopy as a method of condition assessment for carbon fiber composite materials. Carbon fiber composites are used in high performance situations such as overwrapping of composite over-wrapped pressure vessels (COPVs) in aerospace applications and hydrogen and natural-gas transportation systems. The composites will play a large...

Finite Element Analysis of Low Velocity Impact on Carbon Fibers/Carbon Nanotubes Reinforced Polymer Composites

An effort is made to gain insight on the effect of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on the impact response of carbon fiber reinforced composites (CFRs) under low velocity impact. Certain amount of CNTs could lead improvements in mechanical properties of composites. In the present investigation, ABAQUS/Explicit finite element code (FEM) is employed to investigate various damages modes of nano composites ...

Closed - cycle gas flow system for cooling of high T , d . c . SQUID magnetometers

A high T, d.c. SQUID based magnetometer for magnetocardiography is currently under development at the University of Twente. Since such a magnetometer should be simple to use, the cooling of the system can be realized most practically by means of a cryocooler. A closed-cycle gas flow cooling system incorporating such a cooler has been designed, constructed and tested. The aimed resolution of the...

Effect of Fiber Surface Treatment on Wear Characteristics of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polyamide 6 Composites

Ozone modification method and air-oxidation were used for the surface treatment of polyacrylonitrile(PAN)-based carbon fiber. The surface characteristics of carbon fibers were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The interfacial properties of carbon fiber reinforced polyamide 6 (CF/PA6) composites were investigated by means of the single fiber pull-out tests. As a result...

Reduction of Radio Frequency Interference to HTS-dc-SQUID by Adding a Cooled Transformer

Effect of an addition of a cooled step-up transformer to a flux locked loop (FLL) circuit was studied to reduce indirect rf interference to HTS-dc-SQUID. First, we demonstrated that a noise level of an HTS-dcSQUID system using the FLL circuit with single room-temperature transformer could be easily degraded by radiation of rf electromagnetic wave to cables in the FLL circuit. It is thought that...
