Potential hazards of intraoperative cholangiography in patients with infected bile.

چکیده
To assess the relation of bacteraemia to intraoperative cholangiography 194 patients with choledochlithiasis who underwent choledochotomy and who had intraoperative cholangiography through the cystic duct are presented in this study. It has been shown that, in the presence of infected bile, intraoperative cholangiography without manometric control is hazardous, provoking a high incidence of bacteraemia and associated with considerable mortality and morbidity rate. It is suggested that intraoperative cholangiography should be carried out under manometric control, and that it should be used only with extreme care in patients who are likely to have biliary infections.

One Thousand and Six Consecutive Laparoscopic Intraoperative Cholangiograms
Intraoperative cholangiography was successfully performed in 1,000 out of 1,006 attempts in 1019 consecutive cholecystectomies. There were 783 chronic, 95 acute, 61 fibrotic, 27 gangrenous and 40 cases of hydrops of the gallbladder in those laparoscopic cholecystectomies performed. unsuspected common duct stones were identified in 5% of the patients. There were no injuries resulting from intrao...
متن کاملIntraoperative cholangiography still a current investigation
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the standard treatment for patients requiring gallbladder removal. Although the advantages of the laparoscopic technique are widely accepted, the introduction of this technique has doubled the rate of iatrogenic lesions of extrahepatic bile ducts. Research methods for biliary tree also evolved, but intraoperative cholangiography, the traditional exploring method ...

Background and purpose: Evaluation of suspected biliary obstruction is performed by common old methods such as Ultrasound, CT, and invasive cholangiography. These techniques have limitations due to the poor visualization of intraductal stones (US, CT) and the need for an invasive procedure (ERCP, PTC). Magnetic resonance cholangiography (MRC) is noninvasive imaging modality that provides good...

متن کاملActual Time Required for Dynamic Fluoroscopic Intraoperative Cholangiography
OBJECTIVES This study was undertaken to determine the actual amount of time a dynamic fluoroscopic intraoperative cholangiogram adds to a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. A secondary objective was to define the information gained from this procedure. METHODS A consecutive case study of 52 patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy was used. Time was recorded from placement of a laparoscopi...
