Current Acceleration from Dilaton and Stringy Cold Dark Matter

چکیده

We argue that string theory has all the ingredients to provide us with candidates for the cold dark matter and explain the current acceleration of our Universe. In any generic string compactification the dilaton plays an important role as it couples to the Standard Model and other heavy nonrelativistic degrees of freedom such as the string winding modes and wrapped branes, we collectively call them stringy cold dark matter. These couplings are non-universal which results in an interesting dynamics for a rolling dilaton. Initially, its potential can track radiation and matter while beginning to dominate the dynamics recently, triggering a phase of acceleration. This scenario can be realized as long as the dilaton also couples strongly to some heavy modes. We furnish examples of such modes. We provide analytical and numerical results and compare them with the current supernovae result. This favors certain stringy candidates.

Dilatonic Dark Matter ∗ – A New Paradigm –

We study the possibility that the dilaton plays the role of the dark matter of the universe. We find that the condition for the dilaton to be the dark matter of the universe strongly restricts its mass to be around 0.5 keV or 270 MeV. For the other mass ranges, the dilaton either undercloses or overcloses the universe. The 0.5 keV dilaton has the free-streaming distance of about 1.4 Mpc and bec...

Dilaton-assisted dark matter.

A dilaton could be the dominant messenger between standard model fields and dark matter. The measured dark matter relic abundance relates the dark matter mass and spin to the conformal breaking scale. The dark matter-nucleon spin-independent cross section is predicted in terms of the dilaton mass. We compute the current constraints on the dilaton from LEP and Tevatron experiments, and the gamma...

Axion–Dilaton Cosmology and Dark Energy

We discuss a class of flat FRW cosmological models based on D=4 axion-dilaton gravity universally coupled to cosmological background fluids. In particular, we investigate the possibility of recurrent acceleration, which was recently shown to be generically realized in a wide class of axion-dilaton models, but in absence of cosmological background fluids. We observe that, once we impose the exis...

Violations of the equivalence principle in a dilaton - runaway scenario

We explore a version of the cosmological dilaton-fixing and decoupling mechanism in which the dilaton dependence of the low-energy effective action is extremized for infinitely large values of the bare string coupling gs 5ef. We study the efficiency with which the dilaton f runs away toward its ‘‘fixed point’’ at infinity during a primordial inflationary stage, and thereby approximately decoupl...
