MR and CT of squamous cell carcinoma of the middle ear and mastoid complex.

چکیده
Squamous cell carcinoma infrequently arises in the middle ear and external auditory canal. Mastoid complex primary carcinoma is extremely rare. The site of origin of these tumors may be obscure when large destructive lesions are encountered at the initial presentation. Imaging techniques may provide a clue as to the origin of these carcinomas. The complementary role of CT and MR is illustrated in two cases: one with primary carcinoma of the mastoid complex and the other with carcinoma of the external auditory canaljmiddle ear. The sclerosis of bone evident on CT and the striking dural enhancement seen by MR in these cases is discussed.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma of Mastoid Antrum and Attic Extending to Middle Cranial Fossa: A Case Report
Malignancy of the middle ear and mastoid antrum is rare. These malignancies are less than 1%of all head-andneck malignancies. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common among all malignant tumours. Squamous cell carcinoma of the middle ear and chronic suppurative otitis media may co-exist but no definitive correlation has been proven. Here we are presenting a case of squamous cell carcinoma of ...
متن کاملSquamous cell carcinoma of the middle ear: report of three cases.
Squamous cell carcinoma of the middle ear (SCCME) accounts for 1.5% of malignant tumors in the ear. Because of the low incidence and infrequent reports of SCCME, the extent of concordance between CT and MRI results, surgical findings, and pathology reports are not well-characterized. In the present study, we reported CT and MRI images in three SCCME cases, and assessed the relationship between ...

This report documents my personal experience of 5 cases occurring in South African Bantu. Thes...
متن کاملCLASSIFICATION OF CONGENITAL MIDDLE AND EXTERNAL EAR MALFORMATIONS: CT STUDY
The authors used high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) for studying 52 congenitally malformed ears in 45 children between five and 10 years of age. In six children the malformations were bilateral. The malformations clinically manifested as microtia, atresia of the external auditory canal and conductive deafness. Analyzing anatomical details and pathological changes on HRCT axial sec...
متن کاملA Comparative Study of CT Scan and MRI in The Assessment of Squamous Cell Carcinoma of The Oral Cavity and Its Cervical Lymph Node Metastasis
Introduction: Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) is the most common head and neck malignancy. To decrease the side effects of treatment and mortality from disease relapse, careful staging for the proper treatment plan is necessary. The main purpose of this prospective study is to compare the diagnostic value of Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Im-aging (MRI) in oral SCC and its lymph ...
