چکیده

We present a formal semantics for the Object Constraint Language (OCL) which is part of the Uniied Modeling Language (UML) { an emerging standard language and notation for object-oriented analysis and design. In context of information systems modeling, UML class diagrams can be utilized for describing the overall structure, whereas additional integrity constraints and queries are speciied with OCL expressions. By using OCL, constraints and queries can be speciied in a formal yet comprehensible way. However, the OCL itself is currently de-ned only in a semi-formal way. Thus the semantics of constraints is in general not precisely deened. Our approach gives precise meaning to OCL concepts and to some central aspects of UML class models. A formal semantics facilitates veriication, validation and simulation of models and helps to improve the quality of models and software designs.

Semantics of State-Oriented Expressions in the Object Constraint Language

The textual Object Constraint Language (OCL) is an official part of the Unified Modeling Language (UML). It is primarily used to formulate restrictions for UML class diagrams. Additionally, it is possible to refer to UML Statechart states in OCL expressions to reason about currently activated states. However, neither the current OCL standard nor the proposal for the new OCL 2.0 version integrat...

On formalizing UML and OCL features and their employment to runtime verification

Model-driven development (MDD) has been identified as a promising approach for developing software. By using abstract models of a system and by generating parts of the system out of these models, one tries to improve the efficiency of the overall development process and the quality of the resulting software. In the context of MDD the Unified Modeling Language (UML) and its related textual Objec...

Structure of the Dresden OCL Toolkit

The Object Constraint Language (OCL) as a part of the UML standard [1] is a formal language for defining constraints on UML models. We present a software platform for OCL tool support [2]. The platform is designed for openness and modularity, and is provided as open source. The goal of this platform is, for one thing, to enable practical experiments with various variants of OCL tool support, an...

A Formal Semantics for Checking and Analysing UML models

The Unified Modelling Language (UML) is becoming a global standard diagrammatic notation for expressing and describing object-oriented models. Recently, the Object Constraint Language (OCL) has been proposed as a standard expression language for expressing additional constraints on UML models, which are not conveniently expressible in a diagrammatic form. In this paper we provide an approach fo...

Sharing OWL/SWRL and UML/OCL Rules

The paper presents a metamodel-driven model transformation approach to sharing rules between the Semantic Web Rule Language along with the Web Ontology Language (OWL/SWRL) and Object Constraint Language (OCL) along with UML (UML/OCL). The solution is based on the REWERSE Rule Markup Language (R2ML), a MOF-defined general rule language, as a pivotal metamodel and the bi-directional transformatio...
