Curved uniplanar EBG structure for suppressed ground bounce noise and improved signal integrity in power planes

چکیده
A novel wideband uniplanar electromagnetic bandgap structure with curved line bridges (C-EBG) is proposed to be used in power planes for suppressed ground bounce noise (GBN) and improved signal integrity. Compared with a conventional uniplanar electromagnetic bandgap structure with straight line bridges (S-EBG), the CEBG structure significantly increases the equivalent inductance with less splitting in the power plane. The effectiveness of the proposed C-EBG structure was validated both numerically and experimentally. The improvement in bandwidth, GBN suppression, and signal integrity was 70%, 70%, and 20%, respectively.

Analysis of a Novel Electromagnetic Bandgap Structure for Simultaneous Switching Noise Suppression
Electromagnetic Bandgap (EBG) structures have been successfully applied for suppressing the Simultaneous Switching Noise (SSN) between the power and ground planes. Aimed at the relative narrow bandwidth and the poor performance in low frequency of the conventional Uniplanar-Compact EBG (UC-EBG) structure, a novel EBG structure formed by adding spiral-shaped metal strips on the conventional UC-E...
متن کاملMitigation of Noise Coupling in Multilayer High-Speed PCB: State of the Art Modeling Methodology and EBG Technology
Noise coupling on the power distribution networks (PDN) or between PDN and signal traces is becoming one of the main challenges in designing above GHz high-speed digital circuits. Developing an efficient and accurate modeling method is essential to understand the noise coupling mechanism and then solve the problem afterwards. In addition, development of new noise mitigation technology is also i...

© 2010 Jong Hwa Kwon et al. 265 To supply a power distribution network with stable power in a high-speed mixed mode system, simultaneous switching noise caused at the multilayer PCB and package structures needs to be sufficiently suppressed. The uniplanar compact electromagnetic bandgap (UC-EBG) structure is well known as a promising solution to suppress the power noise and isolate noise-sensit...
متن کاملOptimization for the Locations of Decoupling Capacitors in Suppressing the Ground Bounce by Genetic Algorithm
In the high-speed digital printed circuit board, decoupling capacitors play an important role in lowering the power-ground planes impedance leading to the ground bounce noise in I/O ports while the logic is in transition. This paper investigates the optimal placement of decoupling capacitors in suppressing the input and transfer impedances of power-ground planes. The cavity model combines with ...
متن کاملDesignCon 2012 Are Power Planes Necessary for High Speed Signaling?
The performance of a system depends heavily on the communication speed between integrated circuits, which is constrained by the power delivery networks (PDNs). The disruption between the power and ground planes based on the low target impedance concept induces return path discontinuities during data transitions, which create displacement current sources between the power and ground planes. Thes...
