Travel modal choice analysis for traffic corridors based on decision-theoretic approaches

چکیده
The rapid development of multimodal transportation system prompts travellers to choose multiple transportation modes, such as private vehicles or taxi, transit (subways or buses), or park-and-ride combinations for urban trips. Traffic corridor is a major scenario that supports travellers to commute from suburban residential areas to central working areas. Studying their modal choice behaviour is receiving more and more interests. On one hand, it will guide the travellers rationally choose their most economic and beneficial mode for urban trips. On the other hand, it will help traffic operators to make more appropriate policies to enhance the share of public transit in order to alleviate the traffic congestion and produce more economic and social benefits. To analyse travel modal choice, a generalized cost model for three typical modes is first established to evaluate each different travel alternatives. Then, random utility theory(RUT) and decision field theory(DFT) are introduced to describe the decision-making process of how travellers make their mode choices. Further, some important factors that may influence the modal choice behaviour are discussed as well. To test the feasibility of the proposed model, a field test in Beijing is conducted to collect the real-time data and estimate the model parameters. The improvements in the test results and analysis shows new advances in the development of travel mode choice on multimodal transportation networks.

Multi-perspective Decision Support System for Hierarchical Bus Transportation Network Design: Tehran Case Study
In this paper, a multi-perspective decision support system (MP-DSS) to design hierarchical public transportation network is developed. Since this problem depends on different perspectives, MP-DSS consists of two sub-systems with macro and micro sub-systems based on travel information, land use and expert knowledge. In the micro sub-system, two sub-modules are developed considering o...
متن کاملOn Calibration and Application of Logit-Based Stochastic Traffic Assignment Models
There is a growing recognition that discrete choice models are capable of providing a more realistic picture of route choice behavior. In particular, influential factors other than travel time that are found to affect the choice of route trigger the application of random utility models in the route choice literature. This paper focuses on path-based, logit-type stochastic route choice models, i...
متن کاملEffect of family structure on urban areas modal split by using the life cycle concept
The modal split model is one of the steps of the classical four-step travel demand planning. Predictive, descriptive, and prescriptive modal split models are essential to make a balance between travel demand and supply. To calibrate these models, it is necessary to detect and employ influential independent variables that are related to characteristics of travel modes, individual and family attr...

Dynamic road traffic assignment models can be used explicitly to represent and analyse route choice and travel times in networks for which the demand for travel varies over time and congestion arises. Static models cannot represent this phenomenon in a satisfactory manner. Despite the long-term research activity and the several approaches that have been introduced, no dominant approach has emer...
متن کاملA Novel Method for Travel System Patterns
Due to population growth in urban areas, especially in the capital cities in developing countries, the use of private vehicles are increasing, leading to many problems such as congestion, pollution, noise, long travel time, high travel cost and more side effects. In such circumstances government policy would encourage people to use public transportation. In the meantime, employing the Intellige...
