چکیده

This paper describes an experiment we have made in order to illustrate a promising methodology. A first tabular parser, built from the syntactic skeleton of a unification grammar, parses a sentence and produces a shared forest. This forest is used to guide and speed-up a second tabular parser which performs the unification checks.

The Use of Shared Forests in Tree Adjoining Grammar Parsing

We study parsing of tree adjoining grammars with particular emphasis on the use of shared forests to represent all the parse trees deriving a well-formed string. We show that there are two distinct ways of representing the parse forest one of which involves the use of linear indexed grammars and the other the use of context-free grammars. The work presented in this paper is intended to give a g...

Constructing parse forests that include exactly the n-best PCFG trees

This paper describes and compares two algorithms that take as input a shared PCFG parse forest and produce shared forests that contain exactly the n most likely trees of the initial forest. Such forests are suitable for subsequent processing, such as (some types of) reranking or LFG fstructure computation, that can be performed ontop of a shared forest, but that may have a high (e.g., exponenti...

The Structure of Shared Forests in Ambiguous Parsing

The Context-Free backbone of some natural language analyzers produces all possible CF parses as some kind of shared forest, from which a single tree is to be chosen by a disambiguation process that may be based on the finer features of the language. We study the structure of these forests with respect to optimality of sharing, and in relation with the parsing schema used to produce them. In add...

Modeling and Analysis of Elliptic Coordination by Dynamic Exploitation of Derivation Forests in LTAG Parsing

In this paper, we introduce a generic approach to elliptic coordination modeling through the parsing of Ltag grammars. We show that erased lexical items can be replaced during parsing by informations gathered in the other member of the coordinate structure and used as a guide at the derivation level. Moreover, we show how this approach can be indeed implemented as a light extension of the LTAG ...

Cotransforming Grammars with Shared Packed Parse Forests

SPPF (shared packed parse forest) is the best known graph representation of a parse forest (family of related parse trees) used in parsing with ambiguous/conjunctive grammars. Systematic general purpose transformations of SPPFs have never been investigated and are considered to be an open problem in software language engineering. In this paper, we motivate the necessity of having a transformati...
