چکیده

This paper proposes a virtual touchpad human computer interaction (HCI) based on the fingertip hand gesture recognition (FHGR) method for smartphone with depth camera. The virtual touchpad HCI requires less computing power and memory resource than the conventional hand gesture recognition (HGR) methods. It consists of three modules: (1) open hand identification, (2) active fingertip detection and tracking, and (3) fingertip hand gesture recognition (FHGR). First, the handshape region is segmented and divided into three component regions: arm, palm, and fingers. Second, we locate the fingertips and detect the active fingertips. Finally, the trajectory of the active fingertips can be analyzed for FHGR. The two major contributions of this paper are (1) development of a real-time FHGR method with high recognition accuracy and (2) implementation of a virtual touchpad HCI for the smart phones.

Glass OTP: Secure and Convenient User Authentication on Google Glass

Wearable computing devices have become increasingly popular and while these devices promise to improve our lives, they come with new challenges. This paper focuses on user authentication mechanisms for the Google Glass device (Glass). Glass only has three sources of input: a camera, a microphone, and a touchpad. This limited set of interfaces makes the use of standard passwords infeasible or cu...

Natural Interaction with Projected Screen on Surfaces using Infrared Depth Camera

Technology advancement improves the way we interact with computer systems. Keyboard, mouse, and touchpad provide an easier and more natural way of interaction with a computer system. Nowadays, by introducing low cost and high performance depth cameras like Kinect and Xtion, new opportunities are available for creating even more natural interfaces. In this paper, a new model was demonstrated for...

Using the Optical Flow to Implement a Relative Virtual Mouse Controlled by Head Movements

The following paper introduces the work conducted to create a relative virtual mouse based on the interpretation of head movements and face gesture through a low cost camera and the optical flow of the images. This virtual device is designed specifically as an alternative noncontact pointer for people with mobility impairments in the upper extremities and reduced head control. The proposed virt...

Development of a Mobile Projector Camera System for Structured Light Scanning

The aim of this thesis to perform geometric self calibration of a projector camera system using only a smartphone and a small projector. The developed system is capable of performing Structured Light Scanning with off-the-shelf devices, namely a Nokia N900 smartphone and an Optoma PK 320 pico projector. We decouple the projector from the smartphone, which is our computational device and our cam...

Augmented Reality System using a Smartphone Based on Getting a 3D Environment Model in Real-Time with an RGB-D Camera

In this paper, we propose a system to achieve Augmented Reality (AR) on a smartphone. In this system, we assume a fixed RGB-D camera connected to a server is installed in the environment, and perform AR based on the 3D environment shape got by the RGB-D camera in real-time. On the smartphone side, it sends the image captured by its camera, and receives the output image processed to perform AR b...
