Modeling the Coastal Ocean over a Time Period of Several Weeks

چکیده
This paper is part of a work program concerning the modeling of object drift in near coastal ocean waters over a several week time period. The final target of this program is to develop methods to forecast the drift of things like containers, lost objects or oil spill over long periods of time in near coastal ocean areas. Such methods would be of interest for services in charge of maritime safety, environmental studies or pollution impact assessment. To reach this target, several research topics need to be further investigated. For instance, improvements are needed in the field of the numerical methods to simulate long term drift, in the modeling and simulation of the near coastal ocean waters, in the understanding of ocean-object and ocean-spill interactions and, of course, in the integration of all those aspects to move toward a coherent theory.

Ocean Currents Modeling along the Iranian Coastline of the Oman Sea and the Northern Indian Ocean
The Makran Coast (Iranian Coastline of the Oman Sea on the Northern Indian Ocean) plays an important role in country’s future navigation and trade due to its accessibility. In 2014, the Iranian Makran coastline was selected by the PMO to be studied as the Phase 6 in the series of Monitoring and Modelling Studies of Iranian Coasts with all disciplines being in investigated including currents. Al...

The regional waters in Singapore Strait are characterized by complex hydrodynamic phenomena as a result of the combined effect of three large water bodies viz. the South China Sea, the Andaman Sea, and the Java Sea. This leads to anomalies in water levels and generates residual currents. Numerical hydrodynamic models are generally used for predicting water levels in the ocean and seas. But thei...
متن کاملCoastal Ocean Modeling: Processes and Real-time Systems
Introduction The coastal oceans are among the most challenging marine environments in the world. They are subject to the combined geometrical constraints of irregular coastlines and highly variable (steep and tall) bathymetry, and are forced both internally, laterally and surfacially by a complex array of tidal, wind and buoyancy forces on a broad range of space/time scales. The resulting coast...

In the Tsunami of Dec. 26, 2004, although there was a large distance between the earthquake center of Indian Ocean and coastal cities of Iran, the Tsunami waves brought some damages in Chabahar coast. This means that if the earthquake center was closer to Iran, Iran’s coastal regions would have confronted serious danger... In the present study, we used ComMIT software (Community Model Int...
متن کاملStatistical modeling of the association between pervasive precipitation anomalies in Southern Alburz and global ocean-atmospheric patterns
Precipitation patterns are influenced by many factors, such as global atmospheric circulations to name but one. Precipitation patterns in Iran have always had great fluctuations even in a smaller scale like the Alburz Mountain Range. The present research has tried to find the relationship between global atmospheric patterns and the pervasive precipitation ones in Alburz. For doing so, 17 climat...
