Primary mediastinal dedifferentiated liposarcoma resected by lateral thoracotomy with video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery
Primary dedifferentiated liposarcoma originating in the mediastinum is extremely uncommon. Here, we report a case of mediastinal dedifferentiated liposarcoma. A 74-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with a left intrathoracic tumor ∼10 cm in diameter. Computed tomography that was taken in another hospital 2 years before the initial visit to our hospital had shown a lipomatous tumor ∼3 cm ...
متن کاملRecurrent dedifferentiated liposarcoma of mediastinum involving lung and pleura.
We report a case of primary recurrent mediastinal dedifferentiated liposarcoma with unusual long-term survival. A woman who complained of dyspnea showed on imaging features a bulky posterior mediastinal mass which was completely excised and initially misdiagnosed as an angiomyolipoma. She recurred 15 months later and histological examination showed a dedifferentiated liposarcoma. Resection was ...
متن کاملHuge mediastinal liposarcoma resected by clamshell thoracotomy: a case report
BACKGROUND Liposarcoma is the single most common soft tissue sarcoma. Because mediastinal liposarcomas often grow rapidly and frequently recur locally despite adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy, they require complete excision. Therefore, the feasibility of achieving complete surgical excision must be carefully considered. We here report a case of a huge mediastinal liposarcoma resected via ...
متن کاملA unique dedifferentiated tumor of the retroperitoneum
BACKGROUND Dedifferentiated liposarcomas represent heterogeneous tumors with lipomatous and nonlipomatous elements starkly juxtaposed. It is thought that the high grade nonlipomatous elements of the tumor portend a worse prognosis. CASE PRESENTATION A 19.8 kg heterogeneous retroperitoneal tumor was successfully and completely resected. Because of its extent, no additional treatment modalities...
متن کاملPrimary mediastinal liposarcoma, with 6 years of follow-up to autopsy, revealed histopathological features of primary and metastatic lesions.
Primary mediastinal liposarcoma was observed in a 73-year-old man. Because of tight adhesions to adjacent tissues, neither complete resection nor surgical debulking of the tumor was possible. A T-tube was inserted into the patient's trachea for severe dyspnea, and he was treated with radiotherapy and an oral peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma agonist. The patient died 6 years afte...
