Meiotic Maturation: Receptor Trafficking Is the Key
نویسندگان
چکیده
Meiotic maturation and ovulation rates in Caenorhabditis elegans are regulated by a sperm-released gradient of major sperm protein (MSP). Recent work has provided insights into the modulation of the MSP signal by the trafficking of its receptor in oocytes.

Regulated Trafficking of the MSP/Eph Receptor during Oocyte Meiotic Maturation in C. elegans
BACKGROUND In C. elegans, a sperm-sensing mechanism regulates oocyte meiotic maturation and ovulation, tightly coordinating sperm availability and embryo production; sperm release the major sperm protein (MSP) signal to trigger meiotic resumption. Meiotic arrest depends on the parallel function of the oocyte VAB-1 MSP/Eph receptor and somatic G protein signaling. MSP promotes meiotic maturation...
متن کاملP-106: Effect of Cilostamide on Meiotic Arrestof Ovine Oocytes
Background: in vitro maturation (IVM) of oocytes has increasing potential applications in assisted reproductive technology (ART), during which germinal vesicle (GV) oocytes cultured in vitro to produce mature (MII arrested) ones. Although functional, IVM oocytes have low developmental competence compared to in vivo matured oocytes; possibly because IVM comprises asynchrony between nuclear and c...
متن کاملO-11: Zona Pellucida Birefringence and Meiotic Spindle Visualization of Human Oocytes Are Not Influenced by In Vitro Maturation Technology
Background: In vitro maturation (IVM) is a promising treatment option for certain infertile women. Nowadays, with the aid of the Polscope, it has become possible to evaluate zona pellucida (ZP) and spindle as parameters of oocyte quality. The goal was to investigate the relationship between the presence of the meiotic spindle and ZP birefringence with morphology of the in vivo and in vitro matu...
متن کاملVesicular traffic at the cell membrane regulates oocyte meiotic arrest.
Vertebrate oocytes are maintained in meiotic arrest for prolonged periods of time before undergoing oocyte maturation in preparation for fertilization. Cyclic AMP (cAMP) signaling plays a crucial role in maintaining meiotic arrest, which is released by a species-specific hormonal signal. Evidence in both frog and mouse argues that meiotic arrest is maintained by a constitutively active G-protei...
متن کاملEffects of cysteamine during in vitro maturation on viability and meiotic competence of vitrified buffalo oocytes
The aims of the present study were to assess the effects of cysteamine as an anti-oxidant on the rate of in vitro maturation (IVM) of buffalo oocytes (experiment 1), and their viability and nuclear status following vitrification (experiment 2). Immature oocytes with compact cumulus cells obtained from the ovaries of slaughtered animals were harvested and then cultured in the maturation medium w...
