In the minutes of Proceedings of the Sanitary Commissioner for Madras for the second quarter of 1895 are published the precautionary measures to be adopted for prevention of cholera and the procedure necessary for preventing the disease spreading at Bellary. 1. The town will be divided into circles, each of which will be allotted to a medical subordinate. 2. Under each subordinate will be placed a sanitary overseer, a gang of coolies and suf&cient carts. 3. All manure heaps and accumulations of filth to be removed ; if necessary, they can be deodorised by first covering with dry earth, particular attention being paid to dustbins, latrines, cess-pools and drains : slaughter houses and places where animals are kept to be attended to. 4. All sources of drinking-water to be examined, and, if found to be contaminated, to be closed. The use of boiled water should be impressed upon the people. 5. A night-soil cart with two toties to bo at the disposal of each subordinate and tin receptacles (kerosine-oil tins) with covers to be provided for each circle ?half of which will be marked with black paint and half with white paint. 6.
