STS and Area Studies: A Social Network Perspective
نویسنده
چکیده
The focus of this article is to explore how regional academic networks, including balanced global and local relationships, can contribute to the development of science, technology, and science studies and area studies in Asia. On the one hand, local scholars can employ global connections to pursue continuous collaborative academic activities from a region to the world, to learn various information, and to address local issues all over the world. On the other hand, local researchers can utilize local networks to organize locally significant research topics, to create a platform for theory building with regard to specific social contexts, and to create research synergy at different spatial scales.

Charting the typical and atypical development of the social brain.
We describe recent progress in our program of research that aims to use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to identify and delineate the brain systems involved in social perception and to chart the development of those systems and their roles as mechanisms supporting the development of social cognition in children, adolescents, and adults with and without autism. This research program...
متن کاملThe Governance of Health Systems; Comment on “A Network Based Theory of Health Systems and Cycles of Well-Being”
Health systems research aims to understand the governance of health systems (i.e. how health systems function and perform and how their actors interact with each other). This can be achieved by applying innovative methodologies and concepts that are going to capture the complexity and dynamics of health systems when they are affected by shocks. The capacity of health systems to adapt to shocks ...
متن کاملThe Symbiosis of Human and Semantic Technology Through the Lens of Actor-Network Theory
Background: Semantic technologies (STs) have made machine reasoning possible by providing intelligent data management methods. This capability has created new forms of interaction between humans and STs, which is called "semantic interaction." The increasing spread of this form of interaction in daily life reveals the need to identify the factors affecting it and introduce the requirements of...
متن کاملAbnormal activation of the social brain during face perception in autism.
ASD involves a fundamental impairment in processing social-communicative information from faces. Several recent studies have challenged earlier findings that individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have no activation of the fusiform gyrus (fusiform face area, FFA) when viewing faces. In this study, we examined activation to faces in the broader network of face-processing modules that co...
