Detection of Sequence Type 131 in Multi-drug Resistant Uropathogenic Escherichia coli Isolates from Two Hospitals of Sabah
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background: Escherichia coli sequence type 131 (ST131) has emerged among bacteria causing urinary tract infection (UTI) in the previous decade. This ST contains multiple drug resistant (MDR) genes together with genes encoding many virulence factors. As a result, this strain of uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) gives rise to treatment failure with consequent prolonged stay in a hospital. Therefore, earlier identification of this strain in the hospital has advantage in combating severe type of UTI. Objective: To detect ST 131 strains in MDR UPEC isolates from two hospitals of Sabah. Materials and Methods: Antibiotic susceptibility tests were performed to detect MDR isolates. Two polymerase chain reactions (PCRs) including mdh and gyrB allelic-specific PCR were performed on these MDR isolates to detect ST131 strains. Results: The results showed four isolates were resistant to TMPSMX, gentamycin, ciprofloxacin, and cefotaxime, and three isolates of these were investigated to be ST131 strains by two PCR reactions. Conclusion: There is the presence of ST131 strains in hospitals of Sabah. This information will be a guideline for the clinician in the management of UTI in the clinical settings.

Evaluation of the antibiotic resistance and prevalence of uropathogenic Escherichia coli and detection of traT gene in isolated from patients referred to Abadan hospitals during 2017-2018
Objective: Escherichia coli is one of the most important causes agents of urinary tract infection in human. Thus, identification of Escherichia coli resistance patterns seems to be necessary. traT gene has been reported variable in Escherichia coli strains isolated from urinary tract infection. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of uropathogenic Escherichia coli ...

Objective(s): Escherichia coli is the key pathogen in the family producing ESBL (extended spectrum β-lactamase) and associated with community-acquired infections. Therefore, this study was planned to determine the antibiotic susceptibility pattern of uropathogenic E. coli, prevalence of the ESBL gene group and class 1 integrons.Materials and Methods: Clinical isolates of uropathogenic E. coli w...
متن کاملMajor uropathogenic Escherichia coli strain isolated in the northwest of England identified by multilocus sequence typing.
A total of 88 uropathogenic Escherichia coli isolates, including 68 isolates from urine and 20 isolates from blood, were characterized by multilocus sequence typing (MLST). MLST has identified an important genetic lineage of E. coli, designated sequence type 131 (ST-131), represented by 52 of these isolates, 51 of which were resistant to extended-spectrum cephalosporins. ST-131 appears to be a ...

Background & Aims: One of the most common causes of bacterial resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics is beta-lactamase producing. The aim of this study was to compare the antibiotic resistance of urinary Escherichia coli (E. coli) isolates producing CTX-M and TEM type beta-lactamases, and to determine the strains with co-resistance to multiple antibiotics in Mashhad, Iran. Methods: E. coli b...
متن کاملPrevalence of Class 1 Integrons and Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamases among Multi-Drug Resistant Escherichia coli Isolates from North of Iran
Background: Extended spectrum beta lactamases (ESBLs) are an important cause of transferable multidrug resistance (MDR) in gram-negative bacteria. The most described ESBL genes are generally found within integron-like structures as mobile genetic elements. The aim of this study was to identify the accompanying of class 1 integrons and ESBLs in the MDR E. coli isolates. Methods: Susceptibility t...
