چکیده

he possibility to obtain sintered material from alkaline basaltic tuffs is demonstrated. The parent rock was milled for 10–15 min, the resulting owder was pressed at 100 MPa and the obtained samples were heat-treated in the range of 1000–1140 ◦C. The sintering behaviour and the phase ormation were studied by pycnometry, dilatometry, DTA, XRD and SEM. The final material was obtained by sintering at 1100 ◦C and is characterized by zero water absorption, 8–9 vol.% closed porosity and a structure imilar to a glass-ceramic. Due to high crystallization trend of used composition, phase formation takes place during the sintering and cooling teps; this leads to a crystallinity of ∼60% and formation of different crystal phases (pyroxene, anorthite, spinel and hematite). Despite the low-cost production cycle the obtained material is characterized by high mechanical properties: bending strength of 100 MPa and oung modulus of 90 GPa. 2008 Elsevier Ltd. Ceramic material from basaltic tuffs

The possibility to obtain a cheap ceramic material based on 50 wt % basaltic tuffs and 50 wt % industrial clays was studied. The tuffs were characterized by optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction and differential thermal analysis. It was shown that this material is appropriate for the ceramic industry: it is easy for milling and is characterized by low liquidus temperature. The sintering behavio...

Sinter-crystallization of a glass obtained from basaltic tuffs

Glass-ceramic materials, obtained by sinter-crystallization of melted alkaline-olivine basaltic tuffs, were investigated. The kinetics of bulk crystallization was evaluated by differential thermal analysis (DTA) at different heating rates. The phase formation and the sintering behavior of glass powders (<75 lm) were studied in air and in nitrogen atmospheres by DTA and dilatometry, respectively...

Geochemistry and genesis of Mehredjan bentonite deposit, southeast of Khoor, Isfehan province

Mehredjan bentonite deposit is located ~33 km southeast of Khoor in Isfehan province. It includes 15 discrete outcrops and occurs as layered and massive forms within a volcano-clastic sequence. Bentonitization process was accompanied with development of minerals such as montmorillonite, quartz, cristobalite, calcite, kaolinite, halite, albite, orthoclase, and muscovite. Spectroscopic examinations of hydro- and glaciovolcanic basaltic tuffs: Modes of alteration and relevance for Mars

Hydroand glaciovolcanism are processes that have taken place on both Earth and Mars. The amount of materials produced by these processes that are present in the martian surface layer is unknown, but may be substantial. We have used Mars rover analogue analysis techniques to examine altered tuff samples collected from multiple hydrovolcanic features, tuff rings and tuff cones, in the American we...
