Granulomatous myopathy: its relationship to sarcoidosis and polymyositis.

چکیده
In three cases of generalized muscle weakness, muscle biopsy revealed well-defined, non-caseating epithelioid granulomata with giant cells. In one of these patients there was, in addition, a high serum CPK and histological evidence of widespread muscle cell degeneration and regeneration, apparently unrelated to the granulomatous process. In a re-examination of the histopathology of these cases, using biopsy material from a fourth case of proven sarcoidosis as a standard, it was concluded that there are no special features of the granulomatous/giant cell process which permit the separation of the case of presumed polymyositis. However, it appeared that granulomata per se do not exert a significant ill effect on surrounding muscle cells, and that evidence of widespread degeneration of muscle cells is the important point of distinction.

P03-013 - Symptomatic neuromuscular sarcoidosis
Introduction Sarcoidosis is a granulomatous disease possibly affecting all organ systems. Less than 10% of sarcoidosis patients develop symptomatic neurological involvement. Although muscular non-caseating granulomas (NCGs) can be found in up to 75% of sarcoidosis patients, muscular symptoms develop only in less than 0.5% of sarcoidosis patients. Corticosteroids (CS) are the mainstay of medical...
متن کاملSarcoidosis: Is It a Possible Trigger of Inclusion Body Myositis?
Sarcoidosis is a multisystem disorder of unknown etiology, characterized pathologically by the presence of nonnecrotizing granulomatous inflammation in affected organs. Although skeletal muscle is involved in 50-80 percent of individuals with sarcoidosis, symptomatic myopathy has been shown to be a rare manifestation of the disease. Inclusion body myositis (IBM) is a rare acquired idiopathic in...

S arcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disorder that may involve many organs. Beside organ specific symptoms, non-specific constitutional complaints such as fatigue and general weakness are frequent. The granuloma formation in sarcoidosis is driven by an array of cytokines such as tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-a, interleukin (IL)-6, interferon (INF)-c and others. High circulating levels of ...
