The Cosmic Microwave Background Bispectrum and Inflation

چکیده

We derive an expression for the non-Gaussian cosmic-microwave-background (CMB) statistic I3 l defined recently by Ferreira, Magueijo, and Górski in terms of the slow-roll-inflation parameters ǫ and η. This result shows that a nonzero value of I3 l in COBE would rule out single-field slow-roll inflation. A sharp change in the slope of the inflaton potential could increase the predicted value of I3 l , but not significantly. This further suggests that it will be difficult to account for such a detection in multiple-field models in which density perturbations are produced by quantum fluctuations in the scalar field driving inflation. An Appendix shows how to evaluate an integral that is needed in our calculation as well as in more general calculations of CMB bispectra.

Non–Gaussian Signatures in the Cosmic Background Radiation from Warm Inflation

We calculate the bispectrum of the gravitational field fluctuations generated during warm inflation, where dissipation of the vacuum potential during inflation is the mechanism for structure formation. The bispectrum is non–zero because of the self–interaction of the scalar field. We compare the predictions with those of standard, or ‘supercooled’, inflationary models, and consider the detectab...

Cosmic microwave background power asymmetry from non-Gaussian modulation.

Non-Gaussianity in the inflationary perturbations can couple observable scales to modes of much longer wavelength (even superhorizon), leaving as a signature a large-angle modulation of the observed cosmic microwave background power spectrum. This provides an alternative origin for a power asymmetry that is otherwise often ascribed to a breaking of statistical isotropy. The non-Gaussian modulat...

Measurement of the Cosmic Microwave Background Bispectrum on the Cobe Dmr Sky Maps

We measure the angular bispectrum of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation anisotropy from the COBE Differential Microwave Radiometer (DMR) fouryear sky maps. The angular bispectrum is the harmonic transform of the three-point correlation function, analogous to the angular power spectrum, the harmonic transform of the two-point correlation function. First, we study statistical propert...

Non–gaussianity from Warm Inflation in the Weak Dissipative Regime

Standard, slow–roll, single–field inflation, as it has been incorporated into standard cosmology, is an over–simplified scenario to which there have been a number of suggested physical corrections. The generic prediction for the perturbations generated during slow–roll, single–field inflation, as they appear in the cosmic microwave background (CMB), is a flat, close–to– Gaussian spectrum. We ca...
