SUMMARY Muscle based face image synthesis is one of the most realistic approaches to the realization of a life-like agent in computers. A facial muscle model is composed of facial tissue elements and simulated muscles. In this model, forces are calculated effecting a facial tissue element by contraction of each muscle string, so the combination of each muscle contracting force decides a specific facial expression. This muscle parameter is determined on a trial and error basis by comparing the sample photograph and a generated image using our Muscle-Editor to generate a specific face image. In this paper, we propose the strategy of automatic estimation of facial muscle parameters from 2D markers’movements located on a face using a neural network. This corresponds to the non-realtime 3D facial motion capturing from 2D camera image under the physics based condition. key words: facial muscle model, neural network, facial image reconstruction, muscle parameter

On the Dimensionality of Deformable Face Models

Model-based face analysis is a general paradigm with applications that include face recognition, expression recognition, lipreading, head pose estimation, and gaze estimation. A face model is first constructed from a collection of training data, either 2D images or 3D range scans. The face model is then fit to the input image(s) and the model parameters used in whatever the application is. Most...

Automatic 3D Face Modeling with Single Image and Perspective Projection Model

In this paper, a precise and robust algorithm is presented to automatically model the 3D face with only single frontal face image. For shape and projection parameters estimation, an energy function is built to represent the difference between the approximate observed face 3D shape and estimated face 3D shape. To achieve more robust results, shape constraint is added to the energy function. For ...

Dense 3D face alignment from 2D video for real-time use

To enable real-time, person-independent 3D registration from 2D video, we developed a 3D cascade regression approach in which facial landmarks remain invariant across pose over a range of approximately 60 degrees. From a single 2D image of a person’s face, a dense 3D shape is registered in real time for each frame. The algorithm utilizes a fast cascade regression framework trained on high-resol...

Face Tracking

In many face recognition systems, the input is a video sequence consisting of one or more faces. It is necessary to track each face over this video sequence so as to extract the information that will be processed by the recognition system. Tracking is also necessary for 3D model-based recognition systems where the 3D model is estimated from the input video. Face tracking can be divided along di...
