Body boundary and perceptual vividness.

چکیده
An attempt was made to investigate the problem of how boundary differentiation affects perceptual intensity. It was hypothesized that the more definite an individual's boundaries the more intense would be his perceptual experiences. The Barrier score was used to measure boundary definiteness, and the Ames Thereness-Thatness apparatus was employed to evaluate perceptual intensity. In 2 separate studies involving, respectively, 70 males and 39 females significant support for the hypothesis was found.

Domain-specific reports of visual imagery vividness are not related to perceptual expertise.
Just as people vary in their perceptual expertise with a given domain, they also vary in their abilities to imagine objects. Visual imagery and perception share common mechanisms. However, it is unclear whether domain-specific expertise is relevant to visual imagery. Although the vividness of visual imagery is typically measured as a domain-general construct, a component of this vividness may b...

Vividness is one of the fundamental characteristics of visual mental imagery. The first research goal was to examine whether vividness that refer to imagery of pictorial object (color, texture, or shape) versus spatial (three dimensional structure, location, or mechanism) properties constitute separate vividness dimensions. The second goal was to develop a vividness questionnaire separately ass...

Emotionally salient aspects of the world are experienced with greater perceptual vividness than mundane ones; however, such emotionally enhanced vividness (EEV) may be experienced to different degrees for different people. We examined whether BOLD activity associated with a deletion variant of the ADRA2b gene coding for the α2b adrenoceptor modulates EEV in humans. Relative to noncarriers, ADRA...
متن کاملPsychophysical and neural evidence for emotion-enhanced perceptual vividness.
Highly emotional events are associated with vivid "flashbulb" memories. Here we examine whether the flashbulb metaphor characterizes a previously unknown emotion-enhanced vividness (EEV) during initial perceptual experience. Using a magnitude estimation procedure, human observers estimated the relative magnitude of visual noise overlaid on scenes. After controlling for computational metrics of ...
متن کاملLateral posterior parietal activity during reality monitoring
Regions of the lateral posterior parietal cortex (PPC) tend to be more active during recognition of previously studied items compared to correct rejection of unstudied items. Previously, we demonstrated that this effect is sourcespecific. While items that were encoded through visual perception elicited robust successful retrieval activity in the lateral PPC during a subsequent source memory tes...
