Coronary artery distensibility assessed by cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and healthy controls

چکیده
Methods A total of 29 patients with DM treated with insulin (20 men, mean age 62 ± 10 years, mean ±SD) and 10 healthy, adult subjects (4 men, mean age 54 ± 4 years) were studied using a commercial whole-body 3.0 Tesla MRI system. In 13 (45%) patients with diabetes CAD was known (mean age 62 ± 10 years); in 16 (55%) DM patients CAD was absent (mean age 62 ± 11 years). The presence of CAD was defined using a previous coronary x-ray angiogram. In each subject, the proximal segment of a coronary artery was imaged for cross-sectional area measurements using cine spiral MRI [3]. Distensibility (mmHg-1*103) was determined as (lumen max lumen min)/(pulse pressure x lumen min) x 1000. The pulse pressure was calculated as the difference between the systolic and diastolic brachial blood pressure. All continuous parameters are given as mean + one standard deviation (SD). For all tests, p<0.05 was considered statistically significant. All tests were twosided.

Correlation of simultaneous measurements of coronary, carotid and aortic distensibility and vessel wall ratio as evaluated by cardiovascular magnetic resonance in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Background Arterial distensibility can be measured non-invasively by cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) in various arterial territories. However, no information is available comparing distensibility in different anatomical territories in individual patients. Therefore, we sought to compare CMR measurements of the distensibility of the coronary and carotid artery, and ascending aorta (AA) i...
متن کاملAssociation of plasma osteoprotegerin and adiponectin with arterial function, cardiac function and metabolism in asymptomatic type 2 diabetic men
BACKGROUND Osteoprotegerin (OPG), a soluble member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily, is linked to cardiovascular disease. Negative associations exist between circulating OPG and cardiac function. The adipocytokine adiponectin (ADPN) is downregulated in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and coronary artery disease and shows an inverse correlation with insulin sensitivity and cardi...

متن کاملMagnetic resonance assessment of aortic pulse wave velocity, aortic distensibility, and cardiac function in uncomplicated type 2 diabetes mellitus.
BACKGROUND Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) may augment arterial stiffening and thereby modulates left ventricular (LV) function. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is well suited to assess aortic pulse wave velocity (PWV) and aortic distensibility, both markers of arterial stiffness, without the use of geometric assumptions. Furthermore, CMR is a reliable method for assessing left ventricul...
متن کاملAdenosine stress CMR T1-mapping detects early microvascular dysfunction in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus without obstructive coronary artery disease
BACKGROUND Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with coronary microvascular dysfunction in the absence of obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD). Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) T1-mapping at rest and during adenosine stress can assess coronary vascular reactivity. We hypothesised that the non-contrast T1 response to vasodilator stress will be altered in patients with T2DM w...
