Capturing Form of Non-verbal Conversational Behavior for Recreation on Synthetic Conversational Agent EVA

چکیده
Several features of human-human conversation have to be accounted for in order to recreate conversational behavior on a synthetic model, as natural as possible.. Spontaneous conversations are a combination of multiple modalities (e.g. gestures, postures, gazes, expressions) in order to effectively convey information between participants. This paper presents a novel process for capturing the forms of motion performed during spontaneous conversations. Furthermore, it also addresses the process of transforming the captured motions’ descriptions into high-resolution, expressively transformable behavioral scripts. The aim of the research was design a process that will allow building a highresolution motion dictionary. The dictionary is to be presented as a set of expressively transformable behavioral scripts, each capturing the expressive details from a spontaneous conversation (e.g. spatial, repetitive, structural, and temporal features). Key-Words: multimodal annotation, conversational behavior, high-resolution annotation, motion dictionary, analysis of non-verbal behavior

Recreation of spontaneous non-verbal behavior on a synthetic agent EVA
This paper presents a novel process of transferring the human-generated communicative behavior onto an embodied conversational agent. The aim of our work is to build a high-resolution motion dictionary based on empirical analysis of non-verbal behavior performed in multi-speaker informal dialogues. The verbal and non-verbal behavior is recreated by using this motion dictionary and on pure, unpr...
متن کاملAutomatic Generation of Gaze and Gestures for Dialogues between Embodied Conversational Agents: System Description and Study on Gaze Behavior
In this paper we introduce a system that automatically adds different types of non-verbal behavior to a given dialogue script between two virtual embodied agents. It allows us to transform a dialogue in text format into an agent behavior script enriched by eye gaze and conversational gesture behavior. The agents’ gaze behavior is informed by theories of human face-to-face gaze behavior. Gesture...
متن کاملCapturing Conversational Participation in a Ubiquitous Sensor Environment
We propose the application of ubiquitous sensor technology to capturing and analyzing the dynamics of multi-party human-to-human conversational interactions. Based on a model of conversational participation structure, we present an analysis of conversational interactions in the open interaction space of a poster presentation session. We argue that the patterns of transition of the conversationa...

متن کاملExploring Persuasive Potential of Embodied Conversational Agents Utilizing Synthetic Embodied Conversational Agents
This study presents synthetic embodied conversational agents, and how they can be used to explore the persuasive potential of real embodied conversational agents. Utilizing a novel Wizard-of-Oz style approach and a direct measure of behavior change we explore whether ‘ideal’ embodied conversational agents have a similar persuasive impact as real people, and demonstrate the importance of visuall...
