چکیده

2 studies, involving 69 male inmates of an experimental penal institution, investigated the psychological states produced by LSD as compared with amphetamine and placebo controls. A number of scales on a newly developed subjective drug-effects questionnaire significantly differentiated the groups. This instrument was further used to identify 3 qualitatively different subjective states produced by LSD (moderately euphoric, dysphoric, and ambivalent). New techniques for exploring the perceptual and vocal components of emotional change were also applied. These techniques further elucidated the quality and possible origin of the psychological states produced by LSD. The results (which indicate the presence of highly intense but contradictory emotions) were interpreted in the light of a current theory of emotion and Bartlett's concept of "effort after meaning."

The paradoxical psychological effects of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD).

BACKGROUND Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) is a potent serotonergic hallucinogen or psychedelic that modulates consciousness in a marked and novel way. This study sought to examine the acute and mid-term psychological effects of LSD in a controlled study. METHOD A total of 20 healthy volunteers participated in this within-subjects study. Participants received LSD (75 µg, intravenously) on on...

The pharmacology of lysergic acid diethylamide: a review.

Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) was synthesized in 1938 and its psychoactive effects discovered in 1943. It was used during the 1950s and 1960s as an experimental drug in psychiatric research for producing so-called "experimental psychosis" by altering neurotransmitter system and in psychotherapeutic procedures ("psycholytic" and "psychedelic" therapy). From the mid 1960s, it became an illegal...

LSD produces place preference and flavor avoidance but does not produce flavor aversion in rats.

The hedonic properties of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) were assessed using the place conditioning, taste reactivity, and taste avoidance tests. LSD produced a conditioned place preference, but only at the highest dose tested (0.2 mg/kg). A single preexposure to the conditioning chamber (latent inhibition) prevented the establishment of a place preference. When paired with sucrose, doses of ...

Effective GC-MS procedure for detecting iso-LSD in urine after base-catalyzed conversion to LSD.

A sensitive method is described to detect isolysergic acid diethylamide (iso-LSD) in urine. The compound was extracted from urine and converted to a C-8 carbanion by sodium ethoxide in ethanol. Protonation of the carbanion by water selectively produced LSD. The conversion of iso-LSD to LSD was almost quantitative (98%). The product was purified by solid-phase fractionation and acid-base separat...

Stimulus effects of ibogaine in rats trained with yohimbine, DOM, or LSD.

The stimulus effects of ibogaine were compared with those of yohimbine, an alpha 2-adrenoceptor antagonist, 2,5-dimethoxy-4-methylamphetamine (DOM), a 5-hydroxytryptamine2 (5-HT2) agonist, and lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), a nonspecific 5-HT agonist. Rats were trained with either yohimbine (6 mg/kg), DOM (0.6 mg/kg), or LSD (0.1 mg/kg) vs. no treatment in a two-lever discrimination task. Te...
