چکیده

1 AAN013 shear rate behavior. For example, gauge variation can be caused by variable post-extrusion die swell, and warpage can occur from non-uniform relaxation during cooling of an improperly formulated injection molding compound. Also, by testing at low enough shear rates so that the measurements are in the melt’s linear viscoelastic region, the data can be linked directly to the polymer’s molecular structure such as molecular weight and molecular weight distributionfactors which control polymer process ability and product performance.

From reactor to rheology in industrial polymers

This article reviews current efforts towards quantitative prediction of rheological properties of industrial polymer resins, based upon their polydisperse branched molecular structure. This involves both an understanding of how reactor and reaction conditions influence the distribution of chain lengths and branch placement (which is the province of reactor engineering) and an understanding of h...

Investigating the Effect of Polythin and Polydrill on the Properties of Drilling Fluids

In this study, synthetic sulfonated polymers were used in order to enhance the rheological properties of drilling fluids. The capability of these polymers in reducing the effects of environmentally friendly, but harmful, pollutants such as cement, calcium chloride, gypsum as well as pH changes were investigated. In the present work, two sulfonated synthetic polymers, namely Polythin and Polydri...

Rapid, cost-efficient fabrication of microfluidic reactors in thermoplastic polymers by combining photolithography and hot embossing.

We report a cost-efficient and easy to implement process for fabricating microfluidic reactors in thermoplastic materials. The method includes (i) the fabrication of an imprint template (master), which consists of a photoresist deposited on a metal plate; (ii) the thermoembossing of the reactor features into polymer sheets; (iii) the activation of the embossed and planar thermoplastic surfaces;...

Recent Developments in Polymer Characterization Using X-ray Diffraction

The acknowledged versatility of polymeric materials, which are widely used in the form of plastics, films, coatings and fibers, arises from the complex structural organization in these materials. X-ray diffraction (XRD) has long been successfully used to study various aspects of these structures in semicrystalline polymers, which includes thermoplastics, thermoplastic elastomers and liquid crys...

Ionic Liquid-Based Thermoplastic Solid Electrolytes Processed by Solvent-Free Procedures

A series of thermoplastic polymer electrolytes have been prepared employing poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) as a polymer matrix, bis(trifluoromethane sulfonimide) (LiTFSI), and different room-temperature ionic liquids (RTIL) with bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (FSI) or TFSI anions. This formulation makes them safe and non-flammable. The electrolytes have been processed in the absence of solvents by melt c...
