چکیده

This paper builds on Cremer, Rey and Tirole’s analysis of the possible incentives of a firm with the largest share of installed-base customers, in a market characterized by strong network externalities, to degrade or refuse interconnection with its smaller rivals in order to gain a relative quality advantage in competing for new customers. We extend their model to allow any number of smaller rivals. We show that degrading interconnection can lead to tipping of the market away from the largest network even if its share of the installed base exceeds one half; for a given initial share of the largest network, such tipping becomes more likely as the number of rivals increases. We examine the minimal market share required for the largest network to prefer degradation (considering both tipping and non-tipping equilibria), as a function of the model’s key parameters. Besides the number of rivals, key parameters include firms’ common marginal cost and the size of the installed-base relative to potential additional demand. Lower values of these parameters make profitable degradation less likely. In the case of the Internet, plausible parameter values suggest that degradation is not likely to be profitable unless the largest network commands significantly more than fifty percent of the installed customer base. Performance Analysis of a New Neural Network for Routing in Mesh Interconnection Networks

Routing is one of the basic parts of a message passing multiprocessor system. The routing procedure has a great impact on the efficiency of a system. Neural algorithms that are currently in use for computer networks require a large number of neurons. If a specific topology of a multiprocessor network is considered, the number of neurons can be reduced. In this paper a new recurrent neural ne...

Market Concentration and Incentives to Discriminate Against Rivals in Network Industries

for their advice and Ed Lowery and Link Hoewing for their input on telecommunications industry dynamics. All errors and omissions are my own. Abstract I examine the effects of market concentration on interconnection in network industries. Using Cournot interactions, each network chooses quantity, quality for communications within the provider's own network, which I call internal quality, and qu...

Coordinated resource scheduling in a large scale virtual power plant considering demand response and energy storages

Virtual power plant (VPP) is an effective approach to aggregate distributed generation resources under a central control. This paper introduces a mixed-integer linear programming model for optimal scheduling of the internal resources of a large scale VPP in order to maximize its profit. The proposed model studies the effect of a demand response (DR) program on the scheduling of the VPP. The pro...

Decentralized Model Reference Adaptive Control of Large Scale Interconnected Systems with Time-Delays in States and Inputs

This paper investigates the problem of decentralized model reference adaptive control (MRAC) for a class of large scale systems with time varying delays in interconnected terms and state and input delays. The upper bounds of the interconnection terms are considered to be unknown. Time varying delays in the nonlinear interconnection terms are bounded and nonnegative continuous functions and thei...
