چکیده

Extruder path generation for a new rapid prototyping technique named “Curved Layer Fused Deposition Modeling” (CLFDM) has been presented. The prototyping technique employs deposition of material in curved layers in contrast to flat layers as in Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM). The proposed method would be particularly advantageous over FDM in the manufacturing of thin, curved parts (shells) by reduction of stair-step effect, increase in strength and reduction in the number of layers. The criteria for the generation of tool paths for CLFDM are proper orientation of filaments and appropriate bonding between adjacent filaments in same layer and in successive layers. c © 2007 Elsevier Ltd. Curved Layer Fused Deposition Modeling

Current Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) technologies deposit material as flat layers. The result is a “stair-case” effect on non-vertical or horizontal surfaces, and compromised part strength because of weakness between the laminations. This paper describes a FDM method through which layers of build material are deposited as curved layers following the shape of the part, thus removing the stair...

Anti-aliasing for fused filament deposition

Layered manufacturing inherently suffers from staircase defects along surfaces that are gently slopped with respect to the build direction. Reducing the slice thickness improves the situation but never resolves it completely as flat layers remain a poor approximation of the true surface in these regions. In addition, reducing the slice thickness largely increases the print time. In this work we...

Antireflection Coatings for Strongly Curved Glass Lenses by Atomic Layer Deposition

Antireflection (AR) coatings are indispensable in numerous optical applications and are increasingly demanded on highly curved optical components. In this work, optical thin films of SiO2, Al2O3, TiO2 and Ta2O5 were prepared by atomic layer deposition (ALD), which is based on self-limiting surface reactions leading to a uniform film thickness on arbitrarily shaped surfaces. Al2O3/TiO2/SiO2 and ...

Electrical Energy Demand Modeling of 3D Printing Technology for Sustainable Manufacture

The advent of 3D printers has been embraced globally within few years of its emergence. The surge in the acceptability of rapid manufacturing RM technology can be attributed to the depletion and cost of natural resources, waste reduction and sustainability criterion of manufactured parts. This rapidly evolving 3D printing technologies is predicted to grow exponentially especially for the manufa...

Second Harmonic Generation Diagnostic of Layer by Layer Deposition from Disperse Red 1–Functionalized Maleic Anhydride Copolymer

Layer-by-layer (LBL) electrostatic assembly of poly-electrolytes is proving to be an increasingly rich and versatile technique for the formation of multilayered thin films with a wide range of electrical, magnetic, and optical properties. In the present work we synthesized a new nonlinear optical (NLO) maleic acid copolymer containing Disperse Red 1 moieties, built-up multilayer assemblies by a...
