An exercise program for carpometacarpal osteoarthritis based on biomechanical principles.

چکیده
UNLABELLED A review of the literature was performed to design a hand exercise regimen based on biomechanical principles of the carpometacarpal (CMC) joint and the forces that act upon the joint. Sixteen biomechanical studies were included in the review: four studies developed a mathematical model of the thumb and 12 performed cadaveric dissections to study the CMC joint. Clinical application of the biomechanical findings from the studies was synthesized into specific recommendations for a hand exercise program to preserve CMC joint range of motion and increase the strength of the stabilizing muscles of the thumb. The exercise regimen was developed in accordance with recommendations of the American College of Sports Medicine guidelines for the development of individualized exercise prescriptions. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE 4.

The effect of regular exercise program on the pain of the elderly in knee osteoarthritis
Background & Aims: Knee osteoarthritis is one of the most common causes of pain, loss of function and disability in the elderly. Exercise is one of the measures suggested to manage the pain caused by Knee osteoarthritis. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of regular exercise program at home on reducing knee osteoarthritis pain in the elderly. Materials & Methods: In this ...
متن کاملThe Effects of a Moderate Exercise Program on Knee Osteoarthritis in Male Wistar Rats
Objective(s): Osteoarthritis (OA) or degenerative joint disease is the commonest form of arthritis and can lead to joint pain, decrease in joint’s range of motion, loss of function, and ultimately disability. Exercise is considered as one of the non-pharmacological treatments of OA. But the effects of exercise on knee joint cartilage remain ambiguous. The aim of the present study was to inves...
متن کاملThe Effect of Mesenchymal Stem Cell and Aerobic Exercise on the Expression of β-catenin and GSK-3β Genes in Heart Tissue of Rats in the Experimental Model of Knee Osteoarthritis
Introduction: Proliferation has long been the main source of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in tissue repair , cell therapy and tissue engineering strategies. On the other hand, regular exercise as part of a person’s daily routine may help manage pathological conditions. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of mesenchymal stem cell injection and aerobic exercise on the expression ...
متن کاملEffect of Three Therapeutic Methods of Exercise, Ozone, and Stem Cells on the MEF2C Expression and Myostatin Levels in Femoral Muscle Tissue of the Osteoarthritis Rats
Aims Myostatin and Myocyte Enhancer Factor 2C (MEF2C) are involved in muscle changes associated with bone problems. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of three therapeutic methods of exercise, ozone, and stem cells on MEF-2C gene expression and myostatin levels of femoral muscle tissue in osteoarthritis rats. Methods & Materials This experimental study was done on 63 male...
متن کاملA novel self-care biomechanical treatment for obese patients with knee osteoarthritis.
AIM To examine the effect of a novel biomechanical, home-based, gait training device on gait patterns of obese individuals with knee OA. METHODS This was a retrospective analysis of 105 (32 males, 73 females) obese (body mass index > 30 kg/m2 ) subjects with knee OA who completed a 12-month program using a biomechanical gait training device and performing specified exercises. They underwent a...
