Evaluation of three mungbean (Vigna radiate L. Wilczek) genotypes in Monsoon belt of Balochistan, Pakistan

To evaluate the performance of mungbean genotypes including C.V. NM98, C.V. Ramzan and a local genotype as check, an experiment was designed in farmers’ field in Rarasham district Musakhel. This region is situated in Monsoon belt of Balochistan province of Pakistan. Mungbean is one of the major kharif pulse crop grown in this region as solo or intercropped with sorghum or millet. Significant variation was observed among the three varieties including local variety as check for most of the parameters. The contrasting results in physiological maturity were found between the early maturing C.V. Ramzan and late maturing local genotype. All the three varieties showed variation regarding yield components. Maximum number of pods per plant were produced in Local genotype while final yield was observed maximum in C.V. Ramzan due to its higher seed weight. Based on our results C.V. Ramzan is recommended as high yielding mungbean variety for this region. Higher number of pods in local genotype makes it promising to include it in future research to get better recombinant genotype.
