Research on UPnP Protocol Stack for Applications on a Home Network

The UPnP compliant devices can share data with each other and control others on a home network. The device to device communication is carried out by different protocols at different levels in different ways within the UPnP stack which is defined for devices only. But there is no feature for applications to share data with each other on a home network and they are very limited to share data between the devices with similar operating systems. There is no common standard for inter-application communication using UPnP on a home network but with only inter-device communication. This paper discuss about the application perspective view of all protocols within UPnP stack in order to achieve communication across applications residing within UPnP devices on a home network. This paper also discuss about the possibility of using alternative protocols within UPnP stack as a replacement or an extension for effective communication and proposes an upgraded UPnP stack for applications.
