چکیده
Forty two women with hidradenitis suppurative were assessed clinically and biochemically for evidence of androgen excess. Thirteen had irregular menses; 22 of 36 experienced exacerbation of hidradenitis suppurative premenstrually; 19 had or had had acne vulgaris; and seven were hirsute. Comedones (blackheads) were found in apocrine sites in 37, but also in retroauricular sites in 18 and were considered to be an important physical sign for early diagnosis. Eight had evidence of pilonidal (postanal) sinus. The patients had a higher concentration oftotal testosterone (p<001) and free androgen index (testosterone to sex hormone binding globulin concentrations) (p<0-01) than normal controls. Patients with hidradenitis suppurative appear to have endocrine abnormalities sufficient to suggest an androgenic basis for the disease.

Mild cases may present as recurrent isolated nodules, while severe instances of the disease with chronic inflammation may lead to abscesses , scarring, and rarely, squamous cell carcinoma. While genetic f...
متن کاملHidradenitis suppurativa and zinc: a new therapeutic approach. A pilot study.
BACKGROUND Hidradenitis suppurativa (Verneuil's disease) is a chronic suppurative dermatosis involving apocrine glands with a severe impact on the quality of life, which is enhanced by the fact that the drugs usually prescribed are poorly effective. OBJECTIVE We discuss a new therapeutic approach based on zinc salts. METHODS We performed a pilot study on 22 patients, mainly from grade I or ...

Background and Aim: This study is executed to compare two common reconstructive surgeries in suppurative hidradenitis. Methods: Patients with severe supporutive hidradenitis who had operations to excise their axillary lesions and then treated with two standard surgical repair techniques (lateral thoracic flap vs parascapular pedicle flap) were evaluated in a retrospective cohort study. Assessm...
متن کاملUpdate on Hidradenitis Suppurative (Part II): Treatment.
Although hidradenitis suppurativa is a common and serious skin condition, its treatment is not well established. It is now accepted that the moderate and severe forms of the disease are associated with marked systemic inflammation. The goal of treatment in hidradenitis suppurative is therefore to achieve systemic control of inflammation. In some cases, surgery may also be necessary to reduce th...

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a recurrent suppurative disease characterized by inflammatory nodules, abscesses, fistulas, and scarring. We report a case of squamous cell carcinoma arising in chronic HS. In our case the asymptomatic lesion was neglected by the patient for a long time, allowing the occurrence of advanced disease before treatment was sought, which resulted in a terminal outcome...
