چکیده

We generalize the theory of permutations of names to so-called mutations that transform tuples by introducing duplicates and fresh names. The theory of mutations underpins an algorithm for detecting deadlocks (i.e. circular dependencies between resources) in a model defining dependencies – the language for lams. We demonstrate that our algorithm is a decision procedure for so-called linear lams while it is imprecise but sound in the general case. As a consequence of our results, deadlock analyzers for programming languages may be specified by defining an association programs/lams.

A Type System for Preventing Data Races and Deadlocks in Java Programs

This paper presents a new static type system for multithreaded programs; well-typed programs in our system are guaranteed to be free of data races and deadlocks. Our type system allows programmers to partition the locks into a fixed number of equivalence classes and specify a partial order among the equivalence classes. The type checker then statically verifies that whenever a thread holds more...

Low emotional response to traumatic footage is associated with an absence of analogue flashbacks: An individual participant data meta-analysis of 16 trauma film paradigm experiments

Most people will experience or witness a traumatic event. A common occurrence after trauma is the experience of involuntary emotional memories of the traumatic event, herewith "flashbacks". Some individuals, however, report no flashbacks. Prospective work investigating psychological factors associated with an absence of flashbacks is lacking. We performed an individual participant data meta-ana...

Re-experiencing traumatic events in PTSD: new avenues in research on intrusive memories and flashbacks

Posttraumatic flashbacks, consisting of the intrusive re-experiencing of traumatic experiences in the present, have been more clearly defined for the first time in DSM-5 and have been identified as a unique symptom of posttraumatic stress disorder in the proposed ICD-11 diagnostic criteria. Relatively little research into flashbacks has been conducted, however, and new research efforts are requ...

Key Steps in Developing a Cognitive Vaccine against Traumatic Flashbacks: Visuospatial Tetris versus Verbal Pub Quiz

BACKGROUND Flashbacks (intrusive memories of a traumatic event) are the hallmark feature of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, however preventative interventions are lacking. Tetris may offer a 'cognitive vaccine' [1] against flashback development after trauma exposure. We previously reported that playing the computer game Tetris soon after viewing traumatic material reduced flashbacks compared to...

Temporal lobe seizures from a posterior cerebral artery aneurysm presenting as memory flashbacks.

Memory flashbacks are usually attributed to recreational drugs or psychiatric conditions. The differential diagnosis for memory flashbacks is diverse and challenging; moreover, management is influenced by the working diagnosis. We describe the case of a 35-year-old man who presented with memory flashbacks secondary to temporal lobe seizures from an unruptured aneurysm of the posterior cerebral ...
