چکیده

Analysts in the natural and environmental sciences often encounter spatially referenced data sets arising from designs that are spatially replicated, where we have a set of main plots, each subdivided into several subplots. Spatial variation, therefore, possibly exists at two resolutions : macro level variation between the main plots and micro-level variation between the subplots within each main plot. Scientific interest centers around estimating the underlying spatial associations and effects at multiple resolutions. These objectives introduce fresh challenges in statistical modeling, especially with regard to constructing rich association structures that yield valid probability models. We outline a spatial-process based versatile methodological framework to accomplish such modelling within a hierarchical Bayesian paradigm. We illustrate the proposed method using forest biomass data from the Forest Inventory and Analysis program of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service.

Modeling of longitudinal data from agricultural experiments using growth curves helps understand conditions conducive or unconducive to crop growth. Recent advances in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) now allow geocoding of agricultural data that help understand spatial patterns. A particularly common problem is capturing spatial variation in growth patterns over the entire experimental d...

Bayesian Multivariate Process Modeling for Prediction of Forest Attributes

This article investigates multivariate spatial process models suitable for predicting multiple forest attributes using a multisource forest inventory approach. Such data settings involve several spatially dependent response variables arising in each location. Not only does each variable vary across space, they are likely to be correlated among themselves. Traditional approaches have attempted t...

Potential of Landsat-8 spectral indices to estimate forest biomass

Forest ecosystems are among the largest terrestrial carbon reservoirs on our planet earth thus playing a vital role in global carbon cycle. Presently, remote sensing techniques provide proper estimates of forest biomass and quantify carbon stocks. The present study has explored Landsat-8 sensor product and evaluated its application in biomass mapping and estimation. The specific objectives were...

Comparison of Geographically Weighted Regression and Regression Kriging to Estimate the Spatial Distribution of Aboveground Biomass of Zagros Forests

Aboveground biomass (AGB) of forests is an essential component of the global carbon cycle. Mapping above-ground biomass is important for estimating CO2 emissions, and planning and monitoring of forests and ecosystem productivity. Remote sensing provides wide observations to monitor forest coverage, the Landsat 8 mission provides valuable opportunities for quantifying the distribution of above-g...

Comparison of Ordinal Response Modeling Methods like Decision Trees, Ordinal Forest and L1 Penalized Continuation Ratio Regression in High Dimensional Data

Background: Response variables in most medical and health-related research have an ordinal nature. Conventional modeling methods assume predictor variables to be independent, and consider a large number of samples (n) compared to the number of covariates (p). Therefore, it is not possible to use conventional models for high dimensional genetic data in which p > n. The present study compared th...
